Time to get back into the fray!

Sora-“Cid I need to go back to Hollow Bastion.”

Cid-“I don’t think I can let you do that, kid. The Heartless there are multiplying by the minute. They’d eat your ship up." (Insert obligatory Star Fox reference here.^_~)

Sora-“Then what can we do?”

Cid-“Simple. Go around them instead of through. Install a new navigation gummi and take a new route.”

Sora-“A new gummi? From where?”

Cid-“The secret water way. When I came here 9 years ago, I stored it there in case I ever needed it. Never thought a kid would be the one to use it!”

With a new target in our sights, we head off to the waterway. We find Kairi down there. She’s looking at a Sun mural that’s at the end of an off shoot tunnel. When Sora takes a look, a light flashes and the gummi comes out of the mural, changing the picture to a moon. Neat. ^_^

Sora-“Let’s go back and join the others. We should rest up.”

Kairi-“Okay.” (Donald and Goofy go ahead, but Kairi is still pondering the mural.) “A light at the end of the tunnel…”

Sora-“Oh, your grandma’s story, right?”

Kairi-“That’s right. We were together.”

Sora-“You know what’s funny? I looked everywhere for you, but you were with me all along. Finally, we’re together, Kairi. Now, its time to get Riku back."

Kairi-“You think it’ll ever be the same again between us? Riku’s lost his…” (Oh come now Kairi, you really need to have a little faith in Riku here. He did save your life. Just because Sora is all about getting him back doesn't mean he's going to forget all about you when he sees him again! It'll be fine...)

Sora-“When I turned into a Heartless, you saved me, remember?" (We see Sora’s body falling in the darkness again.) “I was lost in the darkness. I couldn’t find my way. As I stumbled through the dark, I started forgetting things—my friends, who I was. The darkness almost swallowed me. But then I heard a voice—your voice. You brought me back."

Kairi“I didn’t want to just forget about you, Sora. I couldn’t.”

Sora-“That’s it! Our hearts are connected. And the light from our hearts broke through the darkness. I saw that light. I think that’s what saved me. No matter how deep the darkness, a light shines within. I guess it’s more than just a fairy tale.”

Kairi-“Let’s go!”

Sora-“You can’t go.”

Kairi-“Why not?” (She’s annoyed. I would be too. How exclusive a ride is that damn rocket??)

Sora-“Because it’s way too dangerous.” (Oh, well. That’s a legitimate reason, actually.)

Kairi-“Come on, Sora. We made it this far by sticking together. You can’t go alone."

Sora-“Kairi, even if we’re apart, we’re not alone anymore. Right?”

Kairi-“I can’t help?”

Sora-“You’d kind of be in my way.” (She chuckles at his honesty. After all, she doesn't a keyblade or training in magic or any fighting skills that we've seen so far, so it's not to far fetched a reason. Go level up Kairi and maybe we'll hang out with us in KH2.)

Kairi-“Okay. You win. Take this.” (She gives him the charm she was making on the island out of shells. Its five shells somehow attached to each other to form a star shape. On one of the shells she made a little face so that rest of the shells now seem like arms and legs. Also, its pink. It shows up again in later games, that’s why I’m mentioning it in detail. Anyway Kairi takes on an faux angry air and continues.) “It’s my lucky charm. Be sure to bring it back to me.”

Sora-(Calmly.)”Don’t worry. I will.”

Kairi-(Back to normal) “Don’t ever forget. Wherever you go, I’m always with you.”

After leaving Kairi, we talk to Cid again to get the gummi attached. After that, it’s back to Hollow Bastion!

When we land there, Beast is with us.

Sora-“Where’s Belle?”

Beast-“Inside the castle.”

Goofy-“Against her will?”

Beast-“No, I think she stayed for a reason. The other princesses are inside as well."

Donald-“I wonder why?"

Sora-“Let’s go ask them."

Beast-“You may need my strengh. I’ll go with you."

We find the princesses in the chapel.

Cinderella-“We’ve been waiting for you, Keyblade master."

Sora-“Where’s Ansem?”

Auroara-“When the Keyhole appeared, darkness poured out of it. It swallowed Ansem, and he disappeared. (Nom nom nom Ansem...)

Cinderella-“Though Ansem is gone, the flood of darkness hasn’t stopped. We’re working together to hold it back.” (This is apparently accomplished by either their presence alone, or a combination of that and wringing their hands and fretting. Otherwise they don't seem to be actively doing much.)

Aurora-“I cannot forget the look on his face. As the darkness engulfed him, he was smiling."

Cinderella-“I don’t think Ansem will ever return."

Aurora-“Ansem has ignored us since the Keyhole appeared."

Jasmine-“Sora, please hurry! Darkness is pouring from the Keyhole."

Alice-“It’s all we can do just to hold back the darkness."

Snow White-“I don’t know how long we can manage even that."

Sora-“All right, I’m on my way."

Snow White-“We’re counting on you, Keyblade master. In the meantime, we’ll do what we can, too."

Jasmine-“Can you feel the immense power flowing from the Keyhole?”

Alice-“We must close the Keyhole before it’s too late.”

Snow White-“Please hurry, our strength is running out.”

Okay ladies, I’m on it. Don’t get your corsets in a twist. ^_^ Sora and company enter the Keyhole and defeat the giant watch dog Heartless we find inside.

Goofy-“Now let’s seal that big Keyhole.”

Leon-“Sora. You did it."

Sora turns around and follows the voice back out to the main room. Leon, Yuffie and Aerith are all there.

Sora-“What are you guys all doing here?"

Yuffie-“We came in Cid’s ship."

Aerith-“This is our childhood home. We wanted to see it again."

Leon-“It’s in worse shape then I feared. It used to be so peaceful…"

Aerith-“Don’t worry. If you defeat Ansem, all should be restored. Including your island."

Sora-“Really?” (Aerith nods.)

Yuffie-“But, it also means goodbye.”

Aerith-“Once the world are restored, they’ll be separate again."

Yuffie-“Everyone will go back to where they came from."

Sora-“Then I’ll visit you guys with the gummi ship."

Leon-“It’s not that simple."

Yuffie-“Before all this, you didn’t know about the other worlds, right?" (Well, actually, yeah kinda. I mean the whole reason they were building a raft was to get to other worlds right? Why would they be doing that if they didn't think other worlds were out there? And they had an inkling that Kairi was from another world, right? Speaking of that, how did Kairi get to Destiny Islands? It's clear enough to the player that she's from Hollow Bastion, since her Grandma told the story that Sora witnessed in the library of this mansion. The characters in the game don't seem to put this together though, even though Sora recognizes the mansion because of Kairi's memories when they see it in the pictures in Deep Jungle and when they first arrive at Hollow Bastion. So shouldn't Kairi be returned to this world when everything is set back to rights rather then Destiny Islands? Just throwing that out there as something to ponder. Perhaps we shall have the answers one day.)

Aerith-“Because every world is isolated. Inpassable walls divided them."

Yuffie-“The Heartless destroyed those walls. But if the worlds return, so will the walls." (So, they are passable once destroyed. Got it.)

Leon-“Which means the gummi ships will be useless.” (What, really? It’s not that I don’t believe you, it’s just where the hell are you getting this information from? Is there a precedent in play that I'm unaware of? Has this all happened before and been say written down conveniently in book form that I can pick up at my local library, or what?)

Sora-“So you’re saying we’ll never…?” (Sadly, no Sora. It's possible that never again will you be in the company of folks who enjoy unnessicary elipses. They all hang their heads in sorrow, but Leon has just the upbeat speech to turn this all around.)

Leon-“We may never meet again, but we’ll never forget each other."

Aerith-“No matter where we are, our hearts will bring us together again."

Yuffie-“Besides, I couldn’t forget you even if I wanted to." (She waves her hand as if she is wafting away an odor. Apparently Sora wears a strong cologne?)

Sora-“What’s that supposed to mean?"

Goofy-“Hurry! Come and close the Keyhole!”

Leon-“Sora, good luck."

Sora seals the Keyhole without any troubles, and the princesses gather again to thank him.

Alice-“Thank you Sora. I think the darkness has begun to weaken."

Jasime-“But I can feel a powerful darkness growing somewhere far away.”

Aurora-“It’s the heart of the darkness. It must be where Ansem went.”

Sora-“Then we’ll take the gummi ship and deal with both Ansem and the Heartless.”

Cinderella-“A worthy answer, Keyblade master. We offer this power to aid your battle."

Snow White-“Sora, your courage can bring back our worlds."

Aurora-“Once the darkness is gone, all should return to its orginal state.”

Sora-“Kairi will be back on the island?"

Cinderella-“Most certainly. And you should be too.”

Sora-“I can’t go home til I find Riku and the king." (Yay! Now there’s a work ethic I can get behind!)

To Sum up: After checking in with the Traverse Town crew, Sora, Donald and Goofy leave Kairi in the relative safety of Leon and company and set off to return to Hollow Bastion to rescue Riku and seal the Keyhole. They meet up the all the Final Fantasy character who arrived just in time to not help with any of the fighting at all. ^_^ They tell Sora that Hollow Bastion was their world originally, and that once the darkness is all defeated, the worlds will be restored and become separate again, making travel between them sadly impossible. The people will be returned to their worlds as well, but Sora insists that he will not go home until he finds Riku and the King. Also the Disney princesses (and Alice) were all there, keeping the darkness from spreading until Sora could seal the keyhole. After it was sealed, the princesses (and Alice. What? She's NOT a princess!^_^) tell Sora that now the darkness is gathering in another spot. Sora, Donald and Goof are all about it.

"Dear Sora, don't ever leave me, cuz I'll find you... Hugs and cuddles, Kairi."

(KH-1 Part 21) RUN AWAY!

Now take a breath and grab the popcorn, we’re not done with this world yet!

There’s a secret door nearby, and we go through it. It leads to the room that has the princesses of heart and the weird Heartless emblem-shaped portal thing in it. The princesses are unresponsive, so we go past them and run up the stairs to the top platform with the portal on it. As Sora and Donald reach the top step, a force field goes up, cutting off Goofy from joining them. Donald looks back as Goofy crashes into the invisible wall and falls to the floor. Sora doesn’t notice. He’s distracted. Kairi is lying on the floor in the center of the platform. He shouts her name and runs to her. She is still unresponsive. He lifts her gently; getting an arm under her shoulders and shakes her to try to wake her.

Sora- “Kairi! Kairi! Open your eyes!”

Riku-“It’s no use.” (Riku’s voice is still distorted, like there are two people talking at the same time. Sora looks over to the portal, where the voice seems to be coming from. Eventually he spots Riku sitting atop the machinery, still sporting his dark armor.) “That girl has lost her heart. She cannot wake up.” (Sora sets Kairi down.)

Sora- “What? You… You’re not Riku.”

Riku- “The Keyhole cannot be completed so long as the last princess of heart still sleeps.” (Riku, or the body formally known as Riku as it were, slides off the machinery and floats down to the ground, the portal behind him.)

Sora-“The princess…? Kairi’s a princess?”

Riku-“Yes, and without her power, the Keyhole will remain incomplete. It is time she awakened.” (Riku finally lands, and Sora gets his rage on.)

Sora-“Whoever you are, let Riku go! Give him back his heart!”

Riku-“But first, you must give the princess back her heart.” (Riku aims his dark Keyblade at Sora. A flash of red light comes from Sora’s chest, and Sora grabs his chest (right near his heart, specifically) as if it was causing him pain. He makes a noise like he was stabbed or something and with another cry of anguish he falls forward onto his knees, catching himself with his free hand. Donald cries out in concern.)

Riku-“Don’t you see yet? The princess’s heart is responding. It has been there all along. Kairi’s heart rests within you!”

Sora-(Still pained, still doubled over) “Kairi… Kairi’s inside me?” (He looks back at the prone figure of the girl. Ah, so is that why I keep hallucinating about her, she is possessing Sora like a ghost.)

Riku-“I know all there is to know.” (That’s a little cocky…)

Sora-(His voice is strained, still in pain, taking breaths for the words he says.) “Tell me. Who are you?”

Riku-“It is I, Ansem, the seeker of darkness." (Oh no! But you were supposed to be a good guy!! Shocking! Anyway, Ansem/Riku approachs Sora, but Donald’s not having any of it. With his mighty quack of a battle cry, he charges Ansem/Riku. Ansem/Riku bitch slaps him out of the force fielded air without any effort, like he was waving away a fly.) “So, I shall release you now, Princess. Complete the Keyhole with your power. Open the door, lead me into everlasting darkness!"

Riku/Ansem swings the Keyblade, readying to strike Sora. Sora’s still in pain, hasn’t even looked up in a bit so he doesn’t even seem to notice that Riku/Ansem had gotten so close. Suddenly Kairi’s voice calls out Sora’s name! Sora looks up and brings his Keyblade to bear just in time to block Riku/Ansem’s blade. With effort, he rises to his feet, pushing back against the dark Keyblade.

Sora-“Forget it! There’s no way you’re taking Kairi’s heart!” (He says it with anger and determination. Go Sora go! Sora repels Riku/Ansem’s blade and now they stand a bit apart. Suddenly, it’s on like Donkey Kong, and a Keyblade battle ensues. Sora holds his own and Riku falls to his knees, dropping the Dark Keyblade. He vanishes in the dark purpleish mist that Heartless vanish into when they are defeated. Sora cries out Riku’s name and come running towards where he was.

Donald-“Sora! Sora, look!"

Goofy-“The… The Keyhole!”

Sora tried to seal the Keyhole with his Keyblade, but nothing happens. Goofy realizes what the problem is.

Goofy-“It won’t work! The Keyhole’s not finished yet!”

Sora-“What can we do?”

Goofy-“Maybe we’ve gotta go wake Kairi up." (Goofy turns to look at Kairi, and Sora turns around as well.)

Sora-“I think you’re right." (He places his hand on his heart.) “If we can free her heart… But… But how?” (The screen pans out and we see that the Dark Keyblade is still were Riku dropped it. ) “A Keyblade that unlocks people’s hearts… I wonder."

Goofy-“Sora?” (Sora walks over to the Dark Keyblade without a word and picks it up.) “Sora, hold on!”

Donald-“No, wait!”

Sora turns and faces them with a big ‘I’ll be fine’ smile. Then he stabs himself in the heart with the Dark Keyblade before they can react. Sora goes limp, hanging in the air and the Dark Keyblade withdraws itself from his chest. The Dark Keyblade dissolves into the six hearts from the other princesses. Mayhaps I should mention that their hearts are glowing balls of sparkly light, and not like, physical organs… Anywho the hearts return to the princesses. Sora’s chest gives off a bright light and Kairi’s heart come out and returns to her. She awakens.

Sora starts to glow and begins to fall, no longer held aloft by the mysterious force. Kairi begins to get up, and Donald comes running to Sora screaming his name. Kairi gets up, sees what’s going on and also calls out to Sora. She reaches him just in time for him to dissipate in her arms. He turns into sparkles and she watches in disbelief as they fly off into all directions. Donald shouts to the heavens, shaking his fists in the air.

Donald-“Sora! Come back, Sora!”

The screen goes dark for a moment and Sora appears, flying through a pitch black abyss.

Sora-“What’s…? What’s happening to me? Falling… falling… into darkness.”

He disappears into the darkness, and we come back to Goofy, Donald and Kairi, starring in disbelief at the point in the air where Sora’s sparkles vanished.

Kairi-“Sora, are you really— No. He can’t be! I won’t let him go!" (Kairi shouts this last bit with an odd expression, and we are heartened to see that her tiny bit of crazy is still going strong in the form of a possessive take on Sora. Something catches the trio’s attention, and they look around till they see someone come through a portal.)

Ansem-“So you have awakened at last. Princess. The Keyhole is now complete. You have served your purpose.” (This is someone we’ve never seen before. But as we will soon learn, its Ansem, having now completely taken over Riku’s body so that it no longer even looks like him. Ansem is a tall man with long hair and a long ornate jacket. And big Digimon gloves. And a Heartless emblem tattooed on his chest. He’s a scary dude. ) “But now it’s over."

Donald and Goofy bring their weapons to bear.

Donald-“Don’t make another move!”

Goofy-(Aside, to Donald) “Do you think we can stop him all by ourselves?”

Donald-“I don’t know…”

Ansem approaches them, but something stops him. He shakes with the effort to continue moving.

Riku-“No. You won’t use me for this!” (Riku’s translucent glowing form appears in front of Ansem. He’s also strained, maybe in pain. He spreads his arms to block Ansem from approaching his friends.)

Riku-(There’s desperation in his voice.) “You’ve got to run! The Heartless are coming!” (And with that the Heartless appear, surrounding the group. Kairi looks at the Heartless, frowning in thought, and then nods. Then Kairi, Goofy and Donald run away with Donald screaming.

What? Really? We’re leaving Riku? Take a stand people! You fought with me here, to the castle beyond the goblin city to take back the chi- you know what, I’m mixing fandoms here. Let’s get back to business. ^_^

Goofy-“What about the Keyhole?” (Goofy shouts as they run. Yes, what about the Keyhole that’s currently open to the world of darkness and what not; surely we should turn back and do something about it!)

Donald-“Let’s just get out of here!” (Or, not apparently.)

A Heartless watches their escape from the top of the stairs. Here’s the fun part. They’re gone, and I get to control the Heartless! Aw, he’s so cute! Wandering a bit, I notice they also left the other princesses behind in their slumber pods. Poor chickas. Being a Heartless myself, I go through the castle unmolested to follow after the trio. I finally catch up with them in the entrance room to the castle, where I first fought Riku in his dark armor.

Goofy-“Kairi, hurry!”

Kairi-“I can’t leave them behind!” (Hey, all right! ^_^ I don’t care what people say Kairi, you’re aces with me kid!)

Donald-“We can’t stay here!” (Kairi runs down to join them.)

Goofy-“A Heartless is after us!” (Now, see this confuses me. Because he’s talking about me, and I’m just one regular type Heartless. Donald and Goofy should be able to take me out easy. I mean we’ve seen you don’t NEED a Keyblade to take out a Heartless, or at least defeat it if not destroy it entirely. Riku’s done it. I feel like Leon and Yuffie must have. Donald and Goofy do when I’ve stepped away for a moment to get a glass of water. So why all the hub-hub? Fight people!!! ^_^ Anyway, me as a Heartless is now gotten close to the group.)

Donald-“I’ll take care of him!” (Donald raps the Heartless on the head a few times with his magic rod to no aveil. ) “Confounded Heartless! Get lost, will ya?” (The Heartless doesn’t attack or defend itself.)

Kairi-“Sora? Is that you?”

Goofy-“Uh-oh!” (Suddenly many Heartless appear. Goofy and Donald ready their weapons and charge the baddies. Yay!)

Kairi-“This time, I’ll protect you.” (She stand guard over the first Heartless. The Heartless that aren’t engaged with Donald and Goofy surround her and then all leap at her at once.) “Sora!” (She whirls and grabs the Heartless to shield him.)

We pull back to see Donald and Goofy fighting, and they see that Kairi is buried in a large dog pile of Heartless.

Suddenly the pile of Heartless is knocked back in every direction by a bright pink light. We see Sora restored fully holding a now limp Kairi. There’s sparkles everywhere.

Sora-“Kairi, thank you."

Kairi comes back to herself quickly, I don’t think she actually past out so much as just switched off for a minute there.... Anyway, she’s amazed to see him.

No time to chat though, because once again the Heartless have us surrounded. Fortunately for the group, Beast announces his presence with roar and leaps into the fray.

Beast-“Go! Now!”

Sora-“Come with us!”

Beast-“I told you before, I’m not leaving without Belle. Now, go! The Heartless are coming!”

But, but, Beast! Surely together we can—

Sora-“All right. Let’s get out of here.“

Clearly I’m the only one spoiling for a fight; because the team hightails it all the way back to the hideout in Traverse Town. The scene continues with Sora talking to Leon.

Leon-“Tell me what happened.” (Leon listens intently as the scene implies that Sora is recounting their tale.) “So the darkness is flowing out of that Keyhole…"

Aerith-“No wonder there are more and more Heartless everywhere. The only way to stop them is—“

Sora-“Seal the Keyhole, right?”

Leon-“Maybe. But no one know what will happen once it’s sealed.”

Sora-“Well, we can’t just stay here, we have to do something! I’ve got a friend back there.” (Yeah!)

Leon-“That’s right. You have one more friend to worry about. Riku’s Keyblade must have been born of the captive princesses’ hearts—just like that Keyhole you saw. Of course, without Kairi’s heart, it remained incomplete. Once that Keyblade was destroyed, the princesses’ hearts should have been freed. Don’t worry, Sora. If anyone can save your friend, you can.”

Finally the cutscene ends, but everyone’s still got something to say. The jist of it is that the princesses seem to have been freed, but have not returned to their homes. Beyond that, though the darkness is coming strong from the Keyhole, it’s not spreading as they thought it would, though the Heartless are becoming stronger. They seem to think something is holding the forces of evil back. My bet is on the princesses of heart. ^_^ Also, Kairi’s worried that Sora might not be feeling well, what with having been a Heartless. But its fine, I’m cool. We go find Cid to talk to him.

To Sum Up: Sora and company finally finds Kairi in the heart of Hollow Bastion. Riku appears and is possessed by Ansem, the man we've been reading the reports of this whole time. Turns out he's kinda sorta a bad guy. Riku/Ansem, armed with a Dark Keyblade, fights with Sora to free Kairi's heart which has been hidden inside him all this time. Sora wins the battle but frees Kairi's heart anyway to both awaken Kairi and complete the keyhole of the world of Darkness, since it could not be sealed while it was incomplete. This is accomplished by stabbing himself in the heart with the dark keyblade, which made him vanish and eventually turn into a Heartless. Ansem returns to finish off Kairi, Donald and Goofy, but Riku restrains Ansem somehow so the trio can escape. And run they do, all the way back to Traverse Town, but not before finding Sora's Heartless and restoring him with the power of friendship or a hug, its not terribly clear. ^_^ After a bit of conversation, these fact come to light; the darkness is getting stronger but not spreading, and the princesses have not left Hollow Bastion. What could it mean??! ^_~

This is why we can't have nice things!
The scene switches to Riku, who is still running away, gasping for air with every step. Having lost the Keyblade, he himself is now at a loss.

Riku-“Why? It was mine."

Unknown-“Know this. The heart that is strong and true shall win the Keyblade."

Riku turns to face the figure who is talking. It’s a male voice, and the form is taller then he is. Sickly blue energy surrounding him make it had to make out details. We can see that he is dressed in a brown hooded robe. This was the guy on the island that told Sora he knew nothing!

Riku-“What? You’re saying my heart’s weaker than his?”

Unknown-“For that instant it was.”

Unknown-“However, you can become stronger. You showed no fear in stepping through the door to darkness. It held no terror for you. Plunge deeper into the darkness, and your heart will grow even stronger!”

Riku-“What should I do?” (He looks downtrodden and resigned.)

Unknown-“It’s really quite simple. Open yourself to the darkness. That is all. Let your heart, your being, become the darkness itself.“

Riku starts to glow with a sickly looking green energy that lights the braziers in the room. The figure draws closer to Riku and the scene fades away.

Back to Sora and company. Apparently we took a left turn at Albuquerque because it’s a long series of trolleys and stairs before we run into anything but Heartless again. Eventually we find our way to the chapel, but who knows what dangers lie within…

Maleficent stands in the center of the room with the princesses and the odd machine with the Heartless emblem portal in it. She is joined by Riku, who is once again wearing his armor made of the power of darkness. When he begins talking, his voice is strange, as if two people were talking at once, saying the same thing.

Riku-“So, I see the path has emerged at last.”

Maleficent-“Yes. The Keyhole to the darkness.“

Riku-“Unlock it and the Heartless will overrun this world.”

Maleficent-“What do I care? The darkness holds no power over me. Rather, I will use its power to rule all worlds.”

Riku-“Such confidence." (Riku reaches out and a Keyblade appears in his grasp, with a black blade and a blood red hand guard.

Maleficent-“Oh!” (She looks over the Keyblade in approvable, but then huffs in frustration.) “Impossible! The princesses of heart are all here! It must be her." (She looks down to where Kairi lies in the center of the room, no longer floating but now on the floor. )

Riku-“Without her heart, she will never be able to release her power.“ (They hear a noise and look up.)

Maleficent- “The king’s fools are here. I’ll deal with them myself. You stay here and guard the princesses.”

Maleficent leaves. Riku watches her go silently, and oddly enough begins to glow an eerie blue color.

Sora and company enter the chapel. Before we get too far in however, we are stopped by Maleficent. Oh crap. Oh crap. Oh crap oh crap oh crap.

Maleficent-“I’m afraid you’re too late. Any moment now, the final Keyhole will be unsealed.” (So what you’re really saying is we’re not too late…)”This world will be plunged into darkness. It is unstoppable." (Unless we stop it...)

Sora-“We’ll stop it! After coming this far, there’s no way we’re gonna let that happen!” (Go team!!)

Maleficent-“You poor, simple fools. You think you can defeat me? Me, the mistress of all evil?”

Um, can we rethink this? No? Ah well, who wants to live forever anyway! Into the fray! After facing a taste of the true force behind all evil as we know it, Sora and company somehow stand triumphant. Maleficent slips through a portal, seeming to be on the run. She leaves behind Ansem’s 5th report.

Let’s take a breather and read it, shall we?

Ansems Report, Number 5.

“To study Heartless behavior, I picked one out for observation. It wiggled its antennae and, as if sensing a target, headed deep into the castle.

In the deepest part of the castle, its antennae began vibrating, as if searching for something.

Suddenly, a strange door appeared. I’d never known of its existence.

It had a large keyhole, but didn’t seem to be locked.

So I opened the door.

What I saw on the other side mystified me.

What was that powerful mass of energy?

That night, I observed a great meteor shower in the sky.

Could it be related to the door that I have opened?”

Hmm, yes well. Some cryptic stuff you got there, Ansem.

Moving on… The portal Maleficent went through is still there. Smells like a trap…

Let's go through anyway. ^_^

Maleficent is on the other side, taking labored breathes and holding her chest as if pained by it. Riku appears through a portal. His voice still sounds distorted and doubled.

Riku-“Do you need some help?” (He's asking Maleficent.)

Sora-“Riku!” (Sora and company come running in. They can see Riku’s dark Keyblade in his hand.)

Donald-“Is that…”

Riku-“Yes. A Keyblade.” (He holds it up for them to see.) “But unlike yours, this Keyblade holds the power to unlock people’s hearts. Allow me to demonstrate. Behold!" (Without warning, Riku turns to Maleficent and runs her though with the Keyblade. A dark energy is released.)

Maleficent-“Wha—“ (Maleficent looks down at the Keyblade in horror. The tip cannot be seen through the red black engery pulsing from the entry point.)

Riku-“Now, open your heart, surrender it to the darkness! Become darkness itself!”

Riku withdraws the Keyblade and vanishes through a portal. Maleficent is gasping, her body glowing. She seems to strengthen.

Maleficent-“This is it! This power! Darkness… The true darkness!“

Green flame burst into existence at Maleficent’s feet. An instant later, the fire engulfs her to become a pillar of green flame. A black form flies up from the base of the fire, like a massive black crow. Sora readies himself for battle. Smoke fills the room. When it clears, Maleficent has become a massive black dragon, a creature made from distilled nightmares.

All right. ::Cracks knuckles:: Let’s dance.

After a deadly battle, the black dragon gives out a fierce roar before crashing to the ground in defeat. It’s body catches fire with green black flames, burning it till only it’s shadow remains on the floor as a grim reminder.

Riku walks across the shadowy remains, approaching the party.

Riku-“How ironic. She was just another puppet after all.”

Riku-“The Heartless were using Maleficent from the beginning. She failed to notice the darkness in her heart eating away at her.“ (He grinds his shoe against the mark on the floor and it fades away completely.) “A fitting end for such a fool.“ (Riku backs away into a portal and vanishes.)

Somewhere in there I picked up the summon for Mushu! Yay! ^_^ Now I have all the summons, Genie, Mushu, Dumbo, Tinkerbell, Simba and Bambi. Sweet. What does that matter, you ask? Well the characters you can summon do show up in later games and say they traveled around with you and you’re already bestest friends with with them even though it’s the first time your visiting their world. So basically they vouch for you when you show on on their worlds and land yourself in trouble. ^_^

To Sum Up: Riku lost the keybkade to Sora and ran off. He wound up talking to a strange man in a brown hooded robe who told him he lost the keyblade because his heart wasnt strong enough at the time, and that he should open himself to the darkness to get stronger. This stranger appeared earlier in in the game to tell Sora he knew nothing. Riku gets juiced from the darkness and gets his own evil looking Keyblade. He and Maleficent discussed why the door Keyhole to the world of darkness wasnt complete yet, and they figured it was because Kairi was still without her heart. Sora and company showed up, and Maleficent tried and failed to hold them off. Riku powered her up by running her through with the dark Keyblade, which made the darkness inside her turn her into a bad ass dragon. Sora and company beat the dragon as well, and the Riku escaped through a portal.

I'm travel size for your convenience.

(KH-1 Part 019) The Begining of the End.

Welcome back! That was a nice little break. There's adventure to be had and work to be done, so let's once more pick up our keyblades to go forth and save the multiverse!

Jiminy’s added an entry to the Journal entitled “Sora’s story.” Let’s read it before we go on.

“Sora finally found Kairi in Neverland. But having lost her heart, she remained asleep. Ignoring Sora’s warning, Riku opened his being to the darkness in hopes of recovering Kairi’s heart, and carried her off to Maleficent’s castle, Hollow Bastion.

It seems the evil sorceress is using minions of darkness to attain something. She manipulated both Hook and Jafar. Now she’s using Riku, too. What is her goal? Is she behind the abductions? Does she seek the Keyblade as well?

The abducted maidens, the keyholes, the Keyblade—somehow they are bound by fate. Sora, Donald and Goofy are headed for Hollow Bastion. Tougher trials may await, but fighting alongside new friends like Aladdin and Peter Pan has made Sora stronger.

His battle won’t be over until he saves Kairi and vanquishes the darkness.”

Well Jiminy, you’ve got a lot of questions. I think it’s high time we got some answers!

Now that we’ve sealed all the worlds we’re been too, I think we’re finally ready to take on Hollow Bastion. Go use the restroom and get yourself some snacks, because we are headed in to some heavy plot territory! As a matter of fact, I’m going to go grab a drink and some munchies myself. Meet you back here in 5.

Okay, everyone ready? We’re going in!

We start flying there in the Gummi ship and you already know its getting serious, the normally easy going music you fly to has kicked it up a notch and the air is thick with asteroids and baddies.

We arrive at a world that’s clearly been twisted by the presence of the Heartless, even this far away. No time to worry about that now, we gotta find Riku, Kairi, and Mickey!

When we land, we find a bizarre world. We’re standing on rocks and ice flows that float in the air. Surround us is a wall of water, held back by an invisible force.

Goofy- “Gawrsh, look at that!”

Sora-“I know this place…” (What? How??!)

The camera pans back and we can see a castle in the distance.

Goofy-“Hmm, that’s strange.”

Sora-“I wonder why…” (Sora put his hand over his heart, looking down in thought.) “I feel this warmth inside, right here."

Donald-“Aw, you’re just hungry.” (Guess Sora should’ve eaten that Paopu fruit with Riku when he had the chance.)

Sora-“Hey, I’m serious!” (A roar in the distance interrupts their conversation.) "Let’s go!”

We hop along the floating rocks until we come across a cut scene. Riku is talking to the Beast from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

Riku-“No vessel, no help from the Heartless… So tell me, how’d you get here?”

Beast-“I simply believed. Nothing more to it. When our world fell into darkness, Belle was taken from me. I vowed I would find her again no matter what the cost. I believed I would find her. So, here I am. She must be here. I will have her back!”

Riku-“Take her if you can.” (Beast lets out an earthshaking roar and leaps at Riku. Riku backs flips out of the way and come back at Beast with his sword. Beast falls. Sora comes to intervene.)

Riku-“So, you finally made it. About time. I’ve been waiting for you. We’ve always been rivals, haven’t we? You’ve always pushed me as I’ve always pushed you.”

Riku-“But it all ends here. There can’t be two Keyblade masters.” (Oh Riku, you don’t even know, just wait till KH3 comes out, there will be so very many Keyblade peeps!)

Sora-“What are you talking about?”

Riku-“Let the Keyblade choose… it’s true master!” (Riku reaches out his hand like he’s going to force choke a lieutenant on a starship. Apparently the Keyblade is a Star Wars fan, because it yanks itself out of Sora’s grip to vanish and reappear in Riku’s hands. Oh noes!) “Maleficent was right. You don’t have what it takes to save Kairi. It’s up to me. Only the Keyblade master can open the secret door and change the world."

Sora-“But that’s impossible. How did this happen? I’m the one who fought my way here with the Keyblade!”

Riku-“You were just the delivery boy.” (Riku admires the Keyblade.) “Sorry, your part’s over now. Here, go play hero with this.”

Riku pulls out a wooden play sword he must have been keeping in hammer space and throws it to Sora. The sword lands at his feet and Sora falls to his knees, stunned by this turn of events. Unfortunately, like a twist on the knife that has stabbed his heart, the worst is yet to come.

Donald-“Goofy. Let’s go. We have to remember our mission." (Damn Donald! Way to kick a guy when he’s down!)

Goofy-“Oh! Well, I know the king told us to follow the key and all… But…” (Goofy looks at Sora, who’s still unresponsive and staring at the wooden sword in shock. He makes a noise of sorrow, torn between his duty and friendship to the King and his friendship with Sora and disheartened turns to follow Donald. Donald pauses and looks back at Sora.)

Donald-“Sora, sorry.” (Donald says, also disheartened by having to abandon Sora.)

Nuuuuu! Don’t leave me!!! You know, I remember being so freaked out by them leaving the first time I played. It blew me away, like Sora I couldn’t believe this was happening. I remember being particularly pissed off at Donald, since in the movies and cartoons, he’s often the one to cut and run on his friends when things go badly, but this was the first time he let me down personally. He usually eventually redeems himself, but it’s often because Goofy or Mickey convince him to do the right thing. Heck some of Goofy’s best scenes, in my opinion, are when he’s straightening out Donald. You may have noticed by now I have an extremely high opinion on Goofy. ^_^ I’m a big fan of the three of them, but I enjoy Goofy most of all. He’s honorable, he’s a lot cleverer then he seems and he always puts his friends first before himself. It’s easy not to notice, he doesn’t often call much attention to his actions. The next time you watch a movie or cartoon with him in it, take time to focus on him and you may see what I mean. I consider him one of the noblest character’s I’ve ever encountered. ^_^ I could go on, but we’re got more plot to get through!

After Donald and Goofy are gone, Beast rises once more. This finally breaks Sora from his stupor. Beast stumbles, clearly injured, and falls down again. Sora runs over to him.

Sora-“Hey, don’t move. You’re hurt.”

Beast-“Why… Why did you… you come here?” (He’s not stuttering, he’s in pain and it keeps making his breath hitch. Sora looks down and clenches his fists.) “I came to fight for Belle.” (He rises again.) “And though I am on my own, I will fight. I won’t leave without her.” (With Sora watching, once more heads after the trio.) “That’s why I’m here." (Sora turns, making a decision. He picks up the wooden blade. He come to stand at Beast’s side.)

Sora-“Me too. I’m not going to give up now. I came here to find someone very important to me."

Sora and Beast make their way to the castle. Upon entering the castle doors, a cut scene begins. We see the Princesses of Heart that have been gathered so far- Jasmine, Cinderella, Aurora, Snow White, Alice, and Belle, all unconscious and being held upright by dark crystalline structures. Each one is in a little alcove in the walls of the room. There is a massive carpet in the room that has a Heartless symbol on it. Oh, I kinda want one. It looks awesome. There is a large staircase with braziers on either side. There is a symbol I don’t recognize at the top of the staircase. In the center of the room something floats in an orb of dark energy. As Maleficent approaches it, we can see that it’s Kairi, still unconscious. Maleficent keeps walking past Kairi and goes up the stairs. The symbol on the staircase is actually on the base of platform that’s up another set of stairs. Energy sparks from some kind of machinery on the platform. She turns to face the room when she reaches the top of the first set of stairs.

Maleficent-“O purest of hearts! Reveal to me the Keyhole!”

Pink energy balls begin to glow, manifesting just in front of the chest area on each of the girls on the walls. A beam of light shoots out of each of the orbs, coming to meet by the ceiling in the center of the room over Kairi’s prone figure. The light shoots from there to the center of the machinery on the platform, which we can now see a bit clearer. There’s a large heart shaped opening in the center of the machinery. Well, more specifically, it’s the symbol of the Heartless, which looks a little different than a heart. Unhealthy looking colors mingle but do not mix in the portal, a slimy green, a deep blood red, a blackish blue. When the light hits them, the colors fade to a pale pink. The scene goes black.

We return to Sora and Beast as they enter the foyer of the castle.

Beast-“Be on your guard. They’re close, I can feel it. Are you ready for them?” (As Sora steps forward, something behind them catches Beast’s attention. He turns.) “Belle?" (Belle is standing in the doorway to the hall that they have just past through. Her image vanishes, leaving a Heartless behind. This enrages the Beast, and he leaps through the doorway to destroy the Heartless. The door slams shut behind them, effectively cutting off Sora from the Beast. Sora, turning to see the Beast is gone, doesn’t see right away that Riku, Donald and Goofy are now standing on the far side of the room.

Riku-“Quit while you can."

Sora-“No. Not without Kairi.”

Riku transforms. Gone are his normal clothes, now he has black body armor with a Heartless crest on his chest.

Riku-“The darkness will destroy you.”

Sora-“You’re wrong, Riku. The darkness may destroy my body, but it can’t touch my heart. My heart will stay with my friends. It’ll never die!”

Riku-“Really… Well, we’ll just see about that!”

Riku lets loose a bolt of energy at Sora, who gives a shout in surprise. His wooden sword will not protect him from this. But what’s this!! The energy blast is shattered by Goofy’s shield! Goofy has come to defend Sora!!! Imagine, if you will, my good readers that I put the controller down and jump around the room in joy. ^_^ I forgot that this happened, but I never lost faith in Goofy! I mean, I remember that he comes back to Sora, but I forgot how. The beauty of the scene must have been too much for my mind to hold onto. ^_^ Do you see? Do you understand? Goofy is the true blue companion that we all wish we knew or treasure if we do. The very last bastion of friendship in the dark empty night. Goofy Goof IS the MAN.

Goofy-“Sora ain’t gonna go anywhere!”

Riku-“You’d betray your king?”

Goofy-“Not on your life! But I’m not gonna betray Sora, either, ‘cause he’s become one of my best buddies after all we’ve been through together!” (Sorry, need a minute here. ::wipes tear:: Goofy, you’re so cool!) “See ya later, Donald.” He waves goodbye to Donald. “Could ya tell the king I’m really sorry?”

Donald-“Hold on, Goofy! We’ll tell him together.” (Donald runs over to Sora. ::Sniffle:: Aw, Donald, came back too! I love you guys!!) “Well, you know… All for one and one for all.” (Goofy nods enthusiastically.)

Goofy-“I guess you’re stuck with us, Sora.” (Aw man, I think Sora’s gonna cry too! ^_^ I’m right there with you man.)

Sora-“Thanks a lot… Donald, Goofy." (He is touched by their actions.)

Riku-“How will you fight without a weapon?"

Sora-“I know now, I don’t need the Keyblade.” (Magic works okay too. ^_^) “I’ve got a better weapon. My heart.” (Hey, worked for Ma-ti!)

Riku-“Your heart? What good will that weak little thing do for you?"

Warning, the following is a cheesy but heartfelt friendship speech. I live for these, ^_~ but if you’re lactose intolerant you may want to turn away.

Sora-“Although my heart may be weak, it’s not alone. It’s grown with each new experience, and it’s found a home with all the friends I’ve made. I’ve become a part of their heart just as they’ve become a part of mine. And if they think of me now and then… if they don’t forget me… then our hearts will be one. I don’t need a weapon. My friends are my power!”

Ah, that was a good friendship speech. ^_^ No wonder I love these games. Oh right, plot…

Riku, with an expression of surprise that borders on the comical, looks down at his hand in time to see the Keyblade vanish, only to reappear in Sora’s hands. Hmm. The Keyblade must also be a fan of friendship speeches. Sora, Donald and Goofy are all ready to fight, weapons out. Riku, feeling he still has a chance I guess? Attacks the group, only to fall to our mad skillz. His costume vanishes, leaving him in his normal clothing. Breathing heavily from the fight, he runs off. The Beast has gotten through the doors and returned to us after the fight. He views the scene approvingly.

Beast-“So, your heart won this battle." (Sora nods.)

The party finds a door marked with the Heartless emblem. After taking a few moments to figure out how to open it, they enter.

To Sum Up: Avast me hearties! Plot a plenty ahead!!
Sora and company head to Hollow Bastion to try and rescue Riku and Kairi from the Darkness. Hollow Bastion is a world visibly twisted from the darkness, and when the gang arrive they get there just in time to intervene in a fight between Riku and Beast. Beast somehow followed Belle here and Riku is trying to stop him from reaching the castle. Sora recognizes the castle, but he doesn't know how or why. Folks that were paying attention will recognize this castle as the one they found the picture of in Deep Jungle.

Riku and Sora have a chat, and Riku manages to summon the keyblade out of Sora's grasp. Sora is shocked that the Keyblade seems to have chosen Riku over himself for its master, and kinda goes catatonic for a bit from it. To make matters worst, Donald and Goofy reluctantly leave Sora to go with Riku, since their King's orders were to follow the key. It's heartbreaking.

After Riku, Donald and Goofy wander off, Beast rises again, fighting through his pain to continue onto the castle. His determination breaks Sora out of his numbed state to join him, deciding to go forward and fight even without the keyblade.

Meanwhile Maleficent has used the power of the Princesses of Heart to summon the Keyhole to the world of the Heartless, or the Darkness... It's not quite clear. It appears more or less in the room that holds all seven Princesses of Heart, including the still unconscious Kairi.

Back to our heroes, Sora and Beast make it inside the castle only to be separated from each other almost at once. Riku, Donald and Goofy rejoin the scene and Riku powers up with the darkness and tries to attack Sora with a angry attack. Just when things look darkest for Sora, Goofy steps in and saves the day, renouncing Riku and asking Donald to apologize for him to the King since he doesn't want to abandon his friend Sora. Donald sides with Goofy, and come over to join Sora as well. Sora gives a friendship speech that would give kids cavities and the keyblade, as a true sucker for a good friendship speech like myself, jumps Riku's ship to reappear in Sora's hand. Go team!

Riku attacks the group but loses and runs off deeper into the castle. Sora and company follow.

Sora, I know you missed us, but this is hardly the time. A little less QQ and a little more Pew-Pew if you please.

(KH-1 Part 018) WTF is a Pooh Stick....?

Well, after all that excitement, I think it’s time we kicked back with a good book. I’ve been collecting pages from the old book in Merlin’s study while I’ve been adventuring, so we head over there to check it out.

When we open the book Sora shrinks and falls on the open pages. There’s map pictured here that would be familiar to anyone who spend some of their childhood in the 100 Acre Wood. Sora finds a spot that he can read, and it takes him inside the story. He walks up to a stuffed yellow bear that’s sitting on a log. The bear is clearly deep in thought, rapidly poking his forehead with his paw as if he is trying to poke a thought out through shear will power. Sora joins him anyway. Since I find this to be one of the more amusing conversations in the game, I’ll share it here word for word.

Pooh- “Think, think. Think, think.”

Sora- “Hi there. What’s wrong?”

Pooh- “Oh nothing. Just thinking.”

Sora- “Oh.”

Pooh- “I was thinking of how to say goodbye to Pooh.”

Sora- “Pooh?” (Oh dear Sora. What must you be thinking, just now?)

Pooh- “Yes?” (He perks up at his name.)

Sora- “Wait a second. You’re Pooh?” (Sora quickly seems to realize he has what appears to be a suicidal stuffed animal on his hands.)

Pooh- “Yes, I’m Winnie the Pooh. Pooh for short. Who are you?” (Pooh’s in a good mood, considering,)

Sora- “I’m Sora.” (You know, I wonder if people on Sora’s island have last names, or if it’s just the way children will often introduce themselves by just their first name. Just curious.)

Pooh- “Oh. Hello, Sora. Have you come to say goodbye to Pooh, too?” (Oh dear lord.)

Sora- “Well, no. Why would I do that? We’ve only just met.” (Sora’s nervous. I can’t be certain, but it’s possible this is the first time he’s need to talk down a teddy bear from going over the edge and doing something they’ll all regret. I have a dog that likes to take out stuffed animals. It’s horrifying, there’s stuffing everywhere. Pooh, you don't want that for you, trust me.)

Pooh- “Because everyone’s gone away.”

Sora- “What do you mean?”

Pooh- “Well, we all lived here in the Hundred Acre Wood. And we’d take walks together, or play Pooh sticks…” (Okay, what the hell is Pooh sticks? How do you even… Ugh, I don’t want to think about it… I'd Google it, but that feels like it would be ill advised.) “And every day, I’d eat some honey.” (That’s a full life you got there Pooh.) “Just one small smackeral would taste very good right now.” (He begins to rub his sizable belly.) “But now, everyone’s gone. All my friends. And my favorite Hunny Tree too. Everyone must’ve gone away while I was napping, I think… So, who knows? Maybe I shall end up going away somewhere as well.” (Understanding dawns on Sora. OOoooh, I see.) “But I wonder, how to I day goodbye to myself? Think, think, think. “

The camera pans to Sora. He clearly has a lot on his mind.

Pooh- “Oh, my tumbly is getting rather rumbly. “ (Without so much as a ‘by your leave’ Pooh walks off.)

Following Pooh, we come upon the little bear’s home, where he lives under the name of Mr. Sanders, by virtue of a sign bearing such a name hanging over the door. It must have been the previous resident’s name. I just love it because of the clever word play. ^_^ Pooh’s checked his cupboard and it’s bare of honey.

Pooh- “Oh, bother. There’s no more honey left. If only the Hunny Tree would visit… Then I could eat my fill.“

Pooh leaves again, and I follow outside. Owl tells me I can see more of Pooh if I have the other pages, which I do. I go over to the Hunny Tree, which has been restored to its proper place because of the pages I have returned to the book. Once there, I spot Piglet. Man, he is so tiny.

Piglet- “Hello? Is anyone there? Wh-Wh-What am I to do? I’m all alone. Pooh? Pooh? Where are you? It’s me, Piglet. “

Sora enters the scene, but his massive towering height of a twelve year old boy terrifies Piglet and he flees. It talks a minute to catch him and convince him I’m not going to eat him.

Piglet- “Oh dear! I was just-I- Nevermind! I’m sorry!”

Sora- “Don’t be scared. You’re looking for Pooh, right?”

Piglet- “You know Pooh? Oh, y-you see, I-I have something for him. I have to take it to Pooh right away.” (Pooh approaches.) “Oh, Pooh!”

Pooh- “Oh, I believe I smell a delicious something—a something like honey!

Piglet- “Pooh!”

Pooh- “Hello, Piglet. How have you been?” (Pooh’s a fricking rock, by the way. Calmly taking the loss of everyone he knows and then maintaining his cool when finding one of them again.)

Piglet- “Oh I-I’m so glad to see you. I thought you’d gone away. I brought wh-what you asked for.”

Pooh- “Thank you, Piglet.” (He now has a balloon.) Now I can finally have some honey. “

Piglet- “Really? B-But how? “

Pooh- “I shall hold on to the balloon, and fly like a bee up the Hunny Tree, see.”

Piglet- “But, if you take their honey, won’t the bees be angry?”

Pooh- “Hm… Oh!”

With Sora there to bat away the bees, Pooh gets to eat his fill. Next we head to Rabbit’s house. Pooh and Piglet are happy to see the house has returned, but sadden that Rabbit doesn’t seem to be home. At least that’s what the house keeps saying when we ask. Hey, wait a minute….After a little breaking and entering, we fine that Rabbit is at home. How nice. Rabbit hesitantly offers Pooh some honey, which he devours. There’s an animating of Pooh stuffing his face that will go on as long as you let it. Om-nom-nom-nom. Unfortunately, when Pooh tries to leave through the rabbit hole rather than the door, all that honey has made him too fat to get through. Huh. And here I thought he was stuffed with fluff. Rabbit thinks carrot juice would help Pooh slim down and get out. I don’t know that more food would help, but sure, whatever, I’m game. ^_^ As we go to get the carrots to make the juice, we meet Tigger who’s bounces break the bridge to rabbit’s house. Tigger introduces himself to Sora, and Pooh introduces Sora to Tigger. Seems Tigger’s bouncing spot has disappeared and he decides that Rabbit’s garden is as good a place as any. Tigger is causing massive damage to the garden and Sora helps protect the vegetables from the hyperactive cat. With some juice and a push, we get Pooh free from the rabbit hole.

After that we head over to the river and find everyone’s favorite depressed donkey floating down stream. We help the self depreciating equus africanus asinus (Latin for donkey, look you’ve learned something new today ^_^) out of his predicament. Unfortunately, our poor purple friend has lost his tail. Pooh and Sora go to look for it. We find it by breaking Eeyore’s house, but Eeyore just glad to have his tail back. Ah, I love that tiny bummed out burro. ^_^

Tigger’s bouncing spot returns after that and we spend some time there, well, bouncing. There’s not much more to tell on that part, save that bounce correctly can earn you treasures. ^_^

Now we’re on the last of the pages I’ve found, and Sora comes back to find Pooh following foot prints in the mud. Curious, I approach the small bear. Pooh is trying to discover where the owner of the footprints is, believing it to be the person who took his friends away. Apparently they were all staying together to keep from getting lost again, but somehow got separated. From the conversation we’re having it seems he got distracted and lost track of the others. It quickly becomes clear that he’s following his own footprints as he circles round and round a large bush. Sora tells Pooh that he’ll take a look around for everyone.

A short game of man hunt later and everyone’s back at base. We end the day watching the stars atop a hill.

Piglet- “I’m so glad we’re all together again. I didn’t know what to do when I was all alone. “

Tigger- “Aw, Piglet, you gotta be brave.”

Piglet- “You weren’t lonely at all?”

Tigger- “Lonely? Are you kiddin’? I’m a Tigger! The most wonderful thing about Tiggers is I’m the only one. But I do admit, friends are awfully fun, too!” (;_; Oh gods above, that’s so tragic when you put it that way, Tigger! Oh, you poor soul. The last and only of your kind! ;_;)

Pooh- “Think, think, Think.”

Sora- “Hey, Pooh, what are you thinking about now?”

Pooh- “Oh, well, I’m just thinking about what to think about.” (Sora chuckles.)

Sora- “Well, I’m off.”

Piglet- “Sora, where are you going?”

Sora- “I’m gonna go look my friends. They’re waiting for me.”

Tigger- “Bounce on back again!”

Piglet- “I hope you find your friends!”

Sora takes his leave, and from a little bit of a distance, does a strange fist pump that seems to be a good-bye gesture. On the hill, Pooh and his friends return it in unison, as if it was the normal thing to do. Pooh takes the time to wave normally after that, and has some parting words for Sora.

Pooh- “Sora, don’t forget… We shall always be here. If you’d like to visit again, that is.” (Pooh’s so Zen. Or was it Tao? No, wait, that’s Piglet. Either way, he's awesome. Silly ole' bear.)

Sora vanishes back into the real world and a shooting star streaks across the sky for Pooh and his friends. The book closes and we can see the cover is no longer blank. It’s the cover for the old Winnie the Pooh book from the childhoods of those of us who read it, save for one difference. The boy on the cover walking with Pooh and his friends is not Christopher Robin, but instead our very own Sora. ^_^ The book closes with a latch bearing the Keyhole for that world, which seals, ending that story for now.

To play us out, Jiminy’s got the journal entry! Yay!

“Sora was whisked away to the world of the Hundred Acre Wood, inside a book in Merlin’s house. There he met Winnie the Pooh, who said all his friends had vanished. Some of the book’s pages had been torn out, taking his friends with them. Sora collected all the scattered pages and brought Pooh and his friends back together.

A happy ending.”

Well said Jiminy. Well said.
To Sum Up- Sora makes life time bestest friends with the Winnie the Pooh crew. He repaired their world, helped them with their retrospectively incredibly minor problems, and sealed the Keyhole. All in all, good times were had all around.

A happy ending indeed.

(KH-1 Part 017) We're the Champs!!!

Donald suggests we go back to town so Cid can upgrade the ship, and Chip and Dale let us know there is another tournament going on. Aw man…

Okay, okay, it’s time. I here I stand, cringing and groaning at the gates, about to enter the Hercules Cup to fight Hercules. But I don’t want to! :( This fight is pretty much the only one in the game I don’t enjoy. The only upside is that there is some plot that goes on during this tournament if memory serves me well. We shall see.

I get to Herc without much difficulty, but then of course Sora stops the tournament to challenge the big guy one on one. Lucky me. Herc is a cheap jerk when you’re fighting him. 98% of the time he’s invincible, and to get him to not be invincible for a few second you need to hit him with a barrel at the right moment. The barrels fly any which way they please for the most part when you hit them, which you have to do three times in a row, and they might just break instead of going flying. If they do hit him, he gets all pissy, running around and head butting you for more damage than he was doing when he was invincible. His moment of ‘weakness’ is short and fast moving, so good luck closing on him to get a shot in. Magic doesn’t really do any damage, so forget ranged attacks. And if you get close, by that time he’s done with being vulnerable and unleashed a big attack that hammers your hit points. Ugh. Very annoying and time consuming. I was able to do it on the first try this time round, so go me. ^_^

After the fight ends we even get a little cut scene.

Herc-“Wow! And I didn’t even hold back!” (No shit dude. Hell, I want to get a ref in here and report you for using god mode cheat codes in a tournament!)

Sora-“Now I finally know what you mean about strength of heart.” (Not throwing the controller across the room?) “Mine comes from Donald and Goofy." (Oh you mean friendship. Aw, that’s sweet Sora.)

Phil-“Come again?”

Sora-“If we stick together, we’re unbeatable! Not even Hercules stands a chance.” (Why did I have to fight him alone then?) “With these guys beside me, I’m ready for anything.”

Phil-“But that’s not exactly what I—“

Hercules-(Cutting Phil off midsentence by picking him up.) “Of course. Your friends give you strength. Isn’t that right, Phil? The three of you together make great heroes.” (Finally!) “And as a team, I’m sure you can overcome anything.”

Sora and Hercules do a manly hands clasp. Now that Sora and company have the super power of friendship at their command, they can move the big rock thing Phil wanted them to move the first time we were here. Sora, Donald and Goofy push it together and reveal the Keyhole to the Coliseum. Yay. We seal that bad boy and head back to Traverse Town.
It should be noted that later on in the game you fight in the Hades tournament and finally fight Hades himself. Besides Donald using a freeze spell to put out the flame of Hades hair, very little of note occurs here to add to the overall story. Two things I feel are worth mentioning are one, that though you defeat Hades, you do not destroy him, as you seem to with the other members our so called Council of Doom and two, you get another one of Ansem’s reports for doing so. So here’s Report 8, a bit earlier then you would have gotten it in the course of the game.

Ansem Report #8
There is no doubt that the Heartless are deeply connected to people's hearts. Further study may unravel both their motivations and the mysteries shrouding the heart.

As a start I built a device that artificially creates Heartless. By recreating the conditions that spawn the Heartless naturally, I should be able to produce them artificially. This device is the culmination of all my research thus far. The machine's test run successfully created a Heartless.

This may be a step towards creating a heart from nothing. The artificially and naturally created Heartless showed nearly identical traits. But the two types should remain distinct for the purpose of this experiment. So I will mark those that are created artificially.

You made a machine that creates fake Heartless. O.o How does that not strike you as a BAD idea? Just me then? I mean the theories you're concluding from your findings are interesting, sure, but you just made a machine that makes creatures that eat peoples hearts. WHY?

Moving right along, we show Cid our new Gummi once we get to Traverse town. He goes off to install it leaving Donald, Sora and Goofy to wait while it gets done.

Goofy-“Now, just remember what Donald said to ya: no frowning, no sad faces.” (Sora’s got his sad on, but we couldn’t see it till just now.)

Sora-“How can you be so cheerful? There’s no sign of your king. Are you worried? “

Donald-“Aw, phooey.”

Goofy-“The king told us to go out and find the key bearer, and we found you. So as long as we stick together, it’ll all work out okay. Ya just gotta believe in yourself, that’s all.“

Sora-“Just believe…”(Sora hears Kairi’s voice in his head.)

Kairi-“I believe in you.”

Okay, we go to lala land for a minute here. The screen goes white and we see Sora flying towards a brilliant light that’s shining in the darkness. There’s some serious lens flair action going on here. The light dissolves, allowing the hovering key bearer to observe what can only be a memory from Kairi’s youth. Young Kairi is hurrying through what looks like a library or sitting room to the side of an elderly woman. I believe she is credited somewhere as ‘Kairi’s Grandmother’ so that’s what we’ll go with here.

Sora -“Where am I?” (They don’t hear him.)

The woman begins to tell a story.

“Long ago, all people lived in peace, bathed in the warmth of the light. Everyone loved the light. Then people began to fight over it. They wanted to keep it for themselves. And darkness was born in their hearts. The darkness spread, swallowing the light and many people’s hearts. It covered everything, and the world disappeared. But small fragments of the light survived… in the hearts of children. With these fragments of light, children rebuilt the lost world. It’s the world be we live in now. But the true light sleeps within the darkness. That’s why the world are still scattered, and divided from each other. But someday, a door to the innermost darkness will open. And the true light will return. So, listen, child. Even in the deepest darkness, there will always be a light to guide you. Believe in the light and the darkness will never defeat you. Your heart will shine with its power and push the darkness away. Do you understand, Kairi?”

Sora-“Kairi?” (The camera pans left to right frantically for a moment. The woman is gone, but little Kairi is still in the room. Sora’s image is floating behind her in the library. She looks around, as if she heard her name being called. She doesn’t turn to face him. He reaches out to her, but the image of her vanishes before his eyes. A blinding white light erases the scene and throws Sora back into his physical body. He opens his eyes. He blinks.

Goofy-“What’s the matter?”

Sora-“Um, nothing. Kairi… Did you call me?”

No time to dwell on all that, Cid’s back. He warns us that the place this Gummi warp will take us is crawling with Heartless, but doesn’t say how he knows.

To Sum Up: Herc’s cheaper than a half off sale at the dollar store in a fight. Sora’s all about friendship after winning the Hercules Cup. Sora had another hallucination where he watched a young Kairi get told a story by her grandmother that involved Light, Darkness, and Hearts, and that they somehow made the worlds separate after people duked it out over them long ago. Cid upgrades their ship so they can go to a new world that's apparently crawling with Heartless. We also talked about the Hades Cups, Hades survived us handing his but to him and we got another Ansem report. The report talked about how Ansem created a machine that can make Heartless that seem no different then naturally occurring Heartless. He theorizes this is the first step to possibly making a heart from nothing.

But Grandma I wanted you to tell me the story of Snow White...
On our way to the next world, Goofy spots a bigger ship catching up to our Gummi rocket. Donald recognizes it as a pirate ship, and I personally recognize the ship I’d know anywhere—the Jolly Roger! The daring vessel owned by the infamous pirate Captain Hook veers to circle back to ram us. Our ship must have crash landed on it because in the next scene Sora is on the bow of the ship, and seems to be without his traveling companions. He is not alone however.
Riku-“I didn’t think you’d come, Sora.” (Sora is surprised to see him.) “I didn’t think I’d see you again."

Sora-“Where are Donald and Goofy?”

Riku- (Angry) “Are they that important to you? More important then old friends? Instead of worrying about them, you should be asking…about her.” (Riku steps to the side to reveal Kairi limply sitting against the mast behind him. She looks out of it, eyes open but no one is home.)

Riku-“That’s right, While you were off goofing around, I finally found her.” (Sora runs forward but is stopped with a hook that blocks his path.)

Hook-“Not so fast. No shenanigans aboard my vessel, boy.“

Sora-“Riku, why are you siding with the Heartless?”

Riku-“The Heartless obey me now, Sora. Now I have nothing to fear.” (This angers Sora. His voice even cracks a little when he speaks.)

Sora-“You’re stupid. Sooner or later they’ll swallow your heart!”

Riku- (Not impressed, perhaps even prideful) “Not a chance. My heart’s to strong.”

Sora- (Saddened) “Riku…”

Riku-“I’ve picked up a few other tricks as well. Like this, for instance.” (Riku motions with one hand and a Shadow version of Sora appears in front of the Keybearer. Sora is shocked, perhaps even a little afraid of the apparition.) “You can go see your friends now.” (A trap door opens under Sora and he falls.) “Let’s get under way, already. And keep Sora away from Kairi until we’re ready to land.” (Hook is annoyed as Riku walks away and turns to his first mate, Smee, to complain.)

Hook-“That scurvy brat thinks he can order me around!”

Smee-“What shall we do, Captain Hook?”

Hook-“Nothing! The hold is crawling with Heartless. Let them keep an eye on the brats.”

Smee-“But, Captain, you-know-who is also down—“

Hook-“Shh… Did you hear that, Smee? Oh, that dreadful sound!”

Smee-“No, Captain.”

Hook-“Are you quite sure? Did I imagine it? Oh my poor nerves…”

That scene fades out, and we fade in on Goofy’s face, very close up.

Goofy-“You don’t say?”

Sora-“Yeah, it was definitely Kairi. I finally found her.” (It’s also an extreme close up on Sora.)

Goofy-“All right! Then let’s go up and talk to her.”

Sora-“Yeah!” (Camera goes to Donald as a headshot.)

Donald-“Sounds great. Okay, but first… how about getting off!” (The camera pans out to reveal Sora laying face up on Goofy, who’s laying face down on Donald, whose face down on the floor. I’m not sure how they got into that position, I guess Sora fell on them and decided it was comfortable enough to have a chat there.)

Sora-“Oh, heh heh, sorry.”
(They look around the room, they are in a cell. A voice lets them know that someone else is in the room, but they don’t see him until he hops out from behind a few barrels.)

Peter-“What are you doing? Looking for a way out?”

Goofy-“Who are you?”

Peter-“I’m the answer to your prayers.” (Donald gives a doubtful grunt.) “Okay then, Fine. Have it your way."

Sora-“But you’re stuck in here too, aren’t you?”

Peter-“No. I’m just waiting for someone.” (A light flies into the room and circles Sora before coming to hover by Peter.) “Tinker Bell, what took you so long?” (The light turns out to be Peter Pan’s personal fairy, Tinker Bell.) “Great Job. So you found Wendy? Hold on. There was another girl there too? Are you crazy? There is no way I’m gonna leave Wendy there!”
(Donald, being the only person there in a fully-fledged relationship, realizes what’s going on.)

Donald-“Aha. She must be pretty jealous.“ (Tinker Bell doesn’t appreciate his insight though and kicks him in the beak. She flies out the little window in the cell door.)

Peter-“Come on Tink! Open up the door.”

Sora clears his throat. Donald looks at Peter and taps his foot. Peter grunts and grimaces, but then holds out his hand and introduces himself.

Peter-“I’m Peter Pan.”

Sora-“I’m Sora.” (Peter pulls his hand away when Sora goes to shake it, clearly annoyed.)

Peter-“Okay, we’re in this together, but only ‘till we find Wendy.”

The door’s open, so Tink must have unlocked it before. Sora and company keep running into Sora’s shadow, which can fly around and fight, but at least it doesn’t have a Keyblade. Hey! I want to fly too! Peter can fly, why not me? No fair. In the next cut scene we run into, Goofy brings up that very same point.

Goofy-“So, uh, how come you can fly?”

Peter-“Anyone can fly. You wanna try?”

YES! YES I DO!! PICK ME! PICK ME!! Ahem. Peter gives a whistle to recall the fairy to their company.

Peter-“Aw, haven’t you cooled off yet. Tink? Just a little bit of pixie dust. There. Now you can fly.”

Donald tries and fails, much to Tink’s amusement. He handles it well, and doesn’t get angry. I think he’s a little taken with the fairy. ^_^ Sadly though, we still cannot fly.

Meanwhile in the Captain’s cabin, Riku and Hook are talking about Wendy.

Hook-“So Wendy’s not one of the chosen ones?”

Riku-“There are seven, supposedly, and Maleficent says she’s not one of them. Hoist anchor as soon as possible. Leave all the dead weight behind, including her.“

Hook-“After the trouble of capturing her? And why those seven? What is Maleficent planning, anyway?” (He’s annoyed.)

Riku-“Who knows?” (He clearly is not interested.) “As long as it means getting Kairi’s heart back, I couldn’t care less.”

Hook-“You’re wasting your time! The Heartless have devoured that girl’s heart. I’ll stake me other hand it’s lost forever.” (Hook is being more or less compassionate here, actually. How nice of him. But that’s a wager I wouldn’t make, unless I never wanted to buy gloves again.)

Riku-“I will find it no matter what.”

Smee-“Uh, Captain…” (Hook goes over to one of those pipes they used to use to communicate on ships way back when and ask Smee what he wants.) “The prisoners have escaped. What’s more, Peter Pan is with them.”

Hook-“Blast that Peter Pan! All right then! Bring the hostage to me cabin, Smee! Hop to it!”

And now back to our heroes. Tink has found a panel of grated material in one corner of a ceiling and calls the boys attention to it. We can see that Wendy is in the room above. She calls down to Peter, telling him to hurry since the pirates are coming. Peter promises to be right there and tells Wendy to hold on. Sora asks Wendy if another girl, Kairi, is in there with her. Wendy confirms that she is, but that Kairi hasn’t moved and seems to be asleep, even though her eyes are open. Kairi is sitting on another area of grating and Sora calls up to her. Her hand slips from her lap and twitches once at her side at the sound of Sora’s voice. This cheers Sora significantly. Unfortunately, just then both girls are grabbed and taken from the cell they were being kept in. The boys begin to look for a way to get up the decks to help.

Finding the route, Sora eventually makes it to the Captain’s cabin to find Kairi being carried by Riku. Sora shouts for Riku to wait. Riku steps back, allowing Sora’s shadow enter the room. Oh noes, it has a Keyblade now. That’s not good. Riku slips away from us in the fight. We find Wendy after a little more searching, but she’s out cold.

Wendy out cold count-1.

She doesn’t wake when Peter calls to her, so takes his leave of the party so he can carry Wendy off to safety.

Sora, Donald and Goofy go through the door where they last saw Riku disappear and walk on deck into the company of the notorious Captain Hook! Dang. Wouldn’t you know I forgot to reequip my potions? This is going to hurt.

Hook-“Quite a codfish, that Riku—Running off with that girl without even saying goodbye.“

Sora-“Run off where? Tell me, where did he go?”

Hook-“To the ruins of Hollow Bastion, where Maleficent resides. But you won’t be going there.” (Hook reveals to Sora’s horror that he has captured Tinker Bell.) “Unless you intend to leave your little pixie friend behind?“

Sora whispers “No!” and lets the Keyblade vanish, surrendering.

Hook-“Hand over the Keyblade and I’ll spare your lives. Be glad I’m merciful, unlike the Heartless. So, which will it be? The Keyblade, or the plank?” (Hook turns to look at the water and spots Mr. Grim, the crocodile that devoured his hand so many years ago.) “It’s him! The crocodile that took me hand! Oh Smee! He’s after me other hand! I can’t stay here! Go away! Oh, I can’t stand the sight of him! Smee, you take care of them!”

Hook goes to his cabin, leaving Smee to oversee Sora walking the plank. As he stands at the edge of the plank over the waiting maw of the hungry crocodile he hears Peter’s voice.

Peter-“Fly, Sora! Just believe, and you can do it!”

Sora takes a leap of faith and soars free of the snapping jaws of the crocodile. Peter swoops in making use of the distraction that Sora has caused to grab Tink out of Smee’s hands.

Sora-“Thanks Peter.”

Peter-“Hey, don’t mention it. You didn’t think I’d leave you and Tink behind, did you?”

Sora- (To the Heartless) “You’re all going down!”

So, I can fly now!!! I love the flying in Kingdom Hearts; it’s very smooth and intuitive.

But, back to the story at hand. We beat the Heartless and sneakily knock on Hook’s door.

Hook-“Is that you, Smee? Did you finish them off?”

Peter- (Doing an excellent impression of Smee’s voice.) "Aye, Captain. They walked the plank, every last one of them.“ (Hook comes out to look, and Peter stabs him in the bum with his knife.)

Hook-“P-Peter Pa—blast you!”

Peter-“Ready to make a splash, you codfish? Now it’s your turn to walk the plank!”

After a fight, Peter throws Hook overboard and he swims fast to out run the shark. Afterwards, the group is standing on the deck of the ship. Sora’s a little apart from the others, who are watching him, perhaps with some concern.

Goofy-“Uh, Kairi couldn’t wake up, so maybe she’s really lost her—“

Sora-“I still can’t believe it. I really flew. Wait ‘till I tell Kairi. I wonder if she’ll believe me. Probably not.”

Peter-“You can bring her to Neverland sometime. Then she can try it herself.“

Sora-“If you believe, you can do anything, right? I’ll find Kairi. I know I will. There’s so much I want to tell her—about flying, the pirates, and everything else that’s happened.“

Tinker Bell flies over to them then, with a message for Peter.

Peter-“What’s that, Tink? What about the clock tower? You say there’s something there?”

We take a moment to fly to Big Ben and meet Wendy again there. She’s awake and she has some words of encouragement for Sora, saying she’s sure that he will find her. She also says one of the four clock faces are off. Bah, I can fix that! I hit it with my Keyblade and it reveals the Keyhole! Sora seals it and a cut scene of Sora and Riku as children starts. It’s the same scene as last time; the two are in the cave, leaving after finding out there is no monster to be found inside.

Riku-“Hey, Sora.”

Riku-“When we grow up, let’s get off this island. We’ll go on real adventures, not this kid stuff!”

Sora-“Sure. But isn’t there anything fun to do now?”

Riku or Sora, I can’t tell-“Hey, you know the new girl at the mayor’s house? She arrived on the night of the meteor shower!”

Riku pauses as Sora disappears down the tunnel to look back at the wooden door in the cave. The Keyhole is now visible, it wasn’t before. He turns to face it and the scene fades out to black.

It fades in again looking up at the ceiling of the room the bad guys like meeting it. Light is pouring down from a circular skylight. Riku is on his knees panting with exertion, clearly exhausted. Maleficent is standing in front of him, admonishing him.

Maleficent-“It was reckless to bring her here without at least using a vessel. Remember, relying too heavily on the dark powers could cost you your heart." (Something roars in the distance. Riku gets to his feet.) “A castaway. Though his world perished, his heart did not. When we took the princess from his castle, he apparently followed her here through sheer force of will. But fear not. No harm will come to you. He is no match for your power.”

Riku-“My power?”

Maleficent-“Yes, the untapped power that lies within you. Now, child, its time you awakened that power and realized your full potential.“

Riku begins to glow a sickly yellow green. That can’t be good.

Back in Neverland, or… London… Anyway, Peter’s talking to Wendy, telling her he’s going back to Neverland and that they visit each other in the future as long as she doesn’t forget about Neverland. The scene gets cozy, and Donald can’t help but laugh at the pixie troubles. He grabs his own beak to shut himself up, but the damage has been done and Tink’s feelings are hurt. She clearly more upset with Peter then Donald though, because after making her anger known to the personification of eternal youth she flies over to Sora and takes refuge in his company. Peter asks Sora to look after her, and Tink comes along with us as one of my favorite summons. We also get a new Gummi piece.

Jiminy’s given his thoughts on the whole affair-

“Sora and company, trapped inside Hook’s ship, searched for Kairi and Wendy, who were locked away somewhere below deck. When they found them, they learned that something was wrong with Kairi. She remained dormant, as if she had lost her heart.

Just when Sora thought Kairi was within reach, Riku snatched her away. Sora and the others pursued them to the main deck, where Hook and his men waited. With Peter Pan’s help, they defeated the pirates, but Riku and Kairi were nowhere to be found. For now, Sora could only hope to see her again. When he sealed the Keyhole at the clock tower, Sora found a gummi block. Will he be able to find Kairi again with this new gummi block? With Tinker Bell now in the party, Sora and his friends continued with their journey.”

So how come we can bring people like Genie and Tink along with us on the ship, but Riku and Aladdin can't go? Are mystical beings exempt from the 'do not meddle in other worlds affairs' rule? How does that work, exactly?

And we got another piece of the report- Ansem’s Report # 9-

“Simply astonishing! Today I had a guest from another world. He is a king, and his vessel is build of the material that composed the meteors. He called the pieces “gummi blocks.” It seems that my opening that door has opened a path to interworld travel.

We talked for countless hours, but one story in particular caught my interest: that of a key called the “Keyblade.” The Keyblade is said to hold phenomenal power. One legend says its wielder saved the world, while another says that he wrought chaos and ruin upon it.

I must know what this Keyblade is. A key opens doors. It must be connected to the door that I have opened.”

So, that's King Mickey right? It's gotta be. (I think you do find out in a later game that it was King Mickey.) And here we have the earliest mention of the wielder of the Keyblade either saving or destroying the world. I'm wondering, hoping really, that KH3 The Keyblade Wars covers this. ^_^ So, if we follow the logic of what we got here, if you open your world door, it breaks the barrier sealing off your world and the possibility for traveling to other worlds is created. Gummi bits rain from the sky, making the possibility a reality if you know to make them into a ship. I still wonder, where do the Gummi bits come from? Are they the broken pieces of the barriers between the worlds?

To Sum Up: Sora and company get captured by the crew of the Jolly Roger in mid flight between worlds. Riku has a private conversation with Sora where Sora learns that Kairi has been found and is here on the ship. Riku also shows Sora that he has learned to control the Heartless and has some new powers from this. Sora begs him to turn away from the dark powers, but Riku refuses and puts him in the brig with Donald and Goofy. There they meet Tinker Bell and Peter Pan, who aid them in escaping. The group find Peter's friend Wendy and Kairi, but are unable to get to them to free them before Kairi are taken away. Before Kairi is taken, the boys talk to them briefly and we discover Kairi is pretty much catatonic, only responding with a slight movement when she hears Sora's voice.

The boys find Wendy out cold and Peter takes her away to safety.
Sora and company go to confront Hook on deck, and find that he has captured Tink, forcing them to surrender. Hook tells them Riku made off with Kairi and took her to Hollow Bastion. Peter comes back to rescue them and they defeat Hook. Tinkerbell joins Sora and company on their adventures. Donald and Goofy quietly acknowledge the possibility that Kairi's heart was taken by the Heartless. We find another of Ansem's reports, this one talking about him befriending a King from another world and the legend of the Keyblade master.

Anti-Sora is what you get when you take shadow boxing and kick it up a notch.
Moving on!

Next up is Halloween Town. Let me tell you, I’m excited. ^_~ Not only do I love Nightmare Before Christmas and so this world, but at some point Jack the Pumpkin King joins your party while you’re here and his moves are just crazy fun to watch. Ah, Halloween is truly the best holiday. It’s a big affair at my place; we really go all out—each year scarier than the last. So I can appreciate Jack’s annual efforts. There’s nothing quite like a successful Halloween!

The trio land in Halloween Town. Having noticed the spooky atmosphere, Donald has disguised us all as a frightful crew. Donald looks like a mummy (not a munny, don’t get confused ^_~) with a chunk of his torso missing. Goofy has a sort of Frankenstein’s monster motif going on, and Sora looks like he’s dressed to cosplay as a bat-boy at an anime convention. Over all, well done Donald. Looking good.

We continue into town where we spot black smoke coming out of a building and several ghostly Heartless appear. We attack, but they are more ghostly then they first seemed apparently, because they don’t even notice. Our attacks go right through them. Weird.

We stand there and ponder, but not for long. Soon, the mayor of Halloween Town appears and announces the nightmare king, Jack Skellington! Yay!! The ghostly Heartless get into the swing of things and dramatically reveal Jack for his entrance from the fountain. From the conversation that follows between the two, it’s clear they have some control of the Heartless, though they don’t seem to realize Heartless pose a real danger, not just a harmless scare. Jack’s not satisfied with the fear factor they are producing with their movements, so he goes to consult Dr. Finkelstein.

Sora and company follow without being invited, but no one seems to mind. Or notice yet either, really. Jack and the good doctor have a Search Ghost Heartless on a lab table and are discussing why they aren’t acting as Jack wishes them to. Jack finds a clue in a book he’s reading. Apparently the Heartless need a heart. Who knew? Jack asks the doctor if such a thing could be made and added to the device (I think he’s referring to the Heartless here) and the doctor says that it’s easily done. Jack reads off a list of ingredients from the book he was reading.

Jack-“To make a heart, first take a container with a lock…" (Finkelstein takes out such a container. It’s already heart shaped too, so that’s… Nice? Unfortunately, it’s already locked.)
Finkelstein-“We need the key to this thing first!”

Sensing an in to the conversation, Sora makes it know to Goofy and Donald that he plans to open the lock for the spooky duo. Donald seems to have doubts, but Sora reasons that if they have the Heart to control the Heartless with, then they won’t have to fight them. But mostly, he wants to see the Heartless dance. ^_^ No, I’m not kidding. He really says that. With a really goofy expression on his face. ^_^It's adorable. Donald says doesn’t care about dancing Heartless, but he doesn’t stop Sora from doing as he likes.

Sora opens the lock for Jack and then introduces himself to the well dressed skeleton who only seems concerned for a moment that three people snuck into his friend’s house without permission. In fact he’s so over that he invites Sora to be part of this year’s Halloween. I feel that mentally Sora is already choreographing his own dance routine, but there will be time enough for that later. First he has some questions.

Sora-“What’s this Heartless doing here?”
Jack-“Oh, the Heartless came to town just recently. What’s frustrating is I can’t get them to dance with me.” (That’s Halloween Town logic for you guys. Things show up to suck out your hearts and turn you in to mindless drones, and your major concern is their lack of rhythm while they do it.) “So the doctor and I are trying to improve the guidance system. He’s quite a genius! Okay Doctor, let’s continue. The ingredients for a heart: Pulse. (We’re using a frog for this. No, I don’t really get why, but unlike the Heartless, this half dead frog can at lest keep a beat.) Emotion. Terror. (Now we get a shot of a spider. Then fingernails run down a chalkboard.) Fear. Hope and despair. (This will be represented by a duel ouroboros of sorts, in the form of two snakes eating each other’s tail.) Mix them all together, and we have a heart!”

Finkelstein adds electricity to the mix as any well-rounded mad scientists would do, and the Heartless slowly sits up from the table. A moment later it collapses again though and Finkelstein announces that the experiment was a failure. Jack is dramatically saddened by this news, but the good doctor's not ready to give up yet. He suggests if they add 'memory' to their ingredients they might make it work. Finkelstein realizes his assistant Sally has what they need, but she’s missing in action at the moment. He asks Jack to track her down. Jack politely asks Sora if he’d like to join him as he goes looking for her. What? Really? That’s seriously the politest—I mean, I love all these worlds we’ve been to, (yes, even Olympus a little) but the folks there either demand or beg you to come along with them. The way Jack said that right there, “Sora, would you like to come along?” was just amazing polite. Not demanding or insistent, just would genuinely like my company. It also seems very clear that if I said no, he wouldn’t be taken aback or take offense, he’d just understand I had other things I wanted to do instead. It’s not that the people on the other worlds don’t have reasons for being curt; it’s just always nice when someone takes the time to remember their manners. So yes, Jack Skellington, king of nightmares, I would love to join you in looking for you friend Sally. It would be my pleasure. Plus, Sora really, really, really wants to see the Heartless dance.

We walk outside, and the Mayor’s having a fit. Apparently the Heartless have got wild and are now running amok. Jack wonders aloud if their experiment triggered the change in the Heartless before calming the Mayor. Donald taps his foot and looks over at Sora and Jack, as if saying I told you so.

We find Sally in the graveyard with the help of Jack’s ghost dog, Zero. Sally gives Jack the ‘memory’ in the form of a Forget-me-not flower. She warns Jack that she has a ‘bad feeling’ about his plan for Halloween, saying that there is still time to do something else. Jack insists he got this under control and asks Sally to trust in him. Sally looks doubtful. She adds that perhaps he could use Sora, Donald and Goofy in the festival instead, but Jack’s mind is made up. The gang heads back to the doctor’s lab, unaware that the whole conversation had been spied on by Lock, Shock and Barrel, the child minions of Oogie Boogie. They trio make plans to report what they heard back to their evil boss, cackling to themselves.

Finkelstein receives the ‘memory’ but now says we need one more ingredient to complete the heart—a ‘surprise’. Well, that’s vague. Lemme just go dig one up for ya, Doc’. While I’m looking for a 'surprise', it’s Oogie’s turn to cackle madly, apparently pleased with the information his terrified underling have given him. Oogie announces his plan to steal the Heart and control the Heartless, though only the three children hear it. I find this a little odd; I thought the Council of Doom members could control the Heartless. Maybe it’s only to some degree and Oogie wants more power over them. That could make sense. Or maybe Oogie wants them to dance for him… That would ALSO make sense, if you use Halloween Town logic…

Back to Sora and company, we find the 'surprise' in a graveyard. It’s a Jack-in-the-box. ^_^ Cute. We head back to the doctors with the hope he hasn’t forgotten anything else. (It’s not that I mind fetch quests, I really don’t. I just hate having to go out multiple times for stuff. Just give me a list and I’ll track everything you need down, no problem. I just hate the “Honey, we need eggs. Oh? You’re back? We need milk too, could you go be a dear and get it?” kind of questing strings. I'm capable of gathering several things you know!! ^_^ Ah well.

We give the Jack-in-the-box to the doctor and he sets about to try the experiment once more. However, Barrel has snuck inside the lab and trips the doctor, sending the Heart flying into the waiting hands of Lock. Lock, Shock and Barrel take off running with the Heart. We go after them but lose track of them when we get to the town square. Fortunately Jack’s ghost dog Zero is available and Jack sicc’s him on them. We follow till we see them disappear into Oogie Boogie’s house. Jack comments that he had suspected Oogie Boogie of being behind the theft of the Heart and we sally forth into the enemy’s lair.

We catch up to the kids just as they toss the Heart down a pipe that leads to Boogie’s room. Dang it. Well, it’s time to beat up small children I suppose. Yeah, there’s no way not to feel bad about it. They cry out throughout the fight and I feel like a big jerk. After all, it’s not like beating them up will get the Heart back now. Ah well. After the fight, the trio of children says that they, just like so many others in history, were just following orders. Then Lock and Shock finger Barrel as the main culprit. We ignore them after that, choosing to instead look for the true mastermind—Oogie Boogie. We track him down in his torture chamber and Jack demands the return of the Heart. Oogie calls Jack out, and eats the Heart. Well. I suppose that showed us. Huh.

Oogie calls out to the Heartless and no one is more disappointed than Oogie that only two show up. There’s a fight and Oogie’s reduced to a pile of insects. Jack says the Heart was a failure. We leave Oogie’s lair only to have the house itself rise up and attack us! Weird. Actually its Oogie himself, merged with the power of darkness. And his house. I dunno. But that’s how it is. We bust up the Oogie House and the Keyhole to Halloween Town is revealed. Sora seals it, and we go back to town. Jack apologizes to Sally for not listening to her warning. Really? You think this is what she was predicting? That three children in a animated tub would steal a homemade Heart and give it to a dude who was made entirely of bugs chilling collectively in a potato sack, who would then eat the Heart and merge with his house and the power of darkness? Man she is good.

Jack and Sally decide to plan next Halloween together, and the festivities are put on hold for now. Finkelstein is still trying to figure out what else you need to make a heart. I hope its friendship. I’m a sucker for that sort of answer. ^_^ Talking to Sally a bit further, we see that Jack has apparently not completely giving up on the hope of dancing Heartless, so don’t worry Sora, the dream still lives.

We leave Halloween Town hearts enriched by one, another entry in Jiminy’s Journal—

“Jack, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town, worked with Dr. Finkelstein and created a heart to control the Heartless for the Halloween festival. Oogie Boogie, plotting to use the heart to take over Halloween Town, had Lock, Shock and Barrel steal it. When Sora and company arrived at his manor, Oogie Boogie tried to summon a swarm of Heartless with the heart, but failed. Evidently, the heart was incomplete. After Sora and his friends defeated him, Oogie Boogie turned into a giant monster, becoming one with his manor. However, he was beaten yet again and disappeared along with the manor. Sora sealed the Keyhole in Halloween Town.”

And two, another one of Ansem’s reports! Number seven, in fact.

“I am now studying material from the meteors that rained down that fateful night. What a find! The material is foreign to our world. It is elastic to the touch and when two pieces are combined, they bond easily. None of the records I’ve scoured even mention such a substance. Was it introduced when I opened that door? I wonder how many other such materials drift through the atmosphere of this tiny world… I wish I could soar off and find out! Could there be uncharted worlds up there? My curiosity never ceases to grow. But I should stop speaking of such unrealistic dreams. For now, there is no way to venture outside this world. My people and I are all but prisoners of this tiny place.”

Seems Ansem wants much more then this provincial life. Clearly he’s found some Gummi blocks, so perhaps that’ll happen for him. What I’m more curious about is the arrival of the Gummi blocks happening after the door on Ansem’s world was opened. Does opening any door break the barriers between the worlds? Or is it the door on Ansem’s world specifically that did that? Or did something else break the barriers between the world, and the Gummi blocks, the door, and the Heartless are unrelated? What are the Gummi blocks truly, and how do they enable relatively safe travel between worlds? Perhaps the Gummi blocks are the shattered remnants of the barriers between the worlds. Interesting.

To Sum Up: Sora and company traveled to Halloween Town and met Jack Skellington, Sally, Doctor Finkelstein, Lock, Shock, Barrel, Zero and the Mayor of Halloween Town. In an effort to control the Heartless so that they would dance in his town’s holiday celebration, Jack and his friends tried to make a Heart that could control the Heartless. Oogie Boogie stole it and found it to be ineffective in controlling the Heartless. Sora and company beat him into the ground to teach him not to steal poorly functioning hearts from skeleton men. We found a piece of Ansem’s reports and it mentions him finding the Gummi blocks on his world after a meteor shower.

Sora-"You're probably wondering why I called this meeting. Guys, I know it's sudden, but I'm giving up being the Keyblade master for my true calling. Interpretive Dance."
I hit Traverse Town after getting back from the tournament. After visiting Merlin, I visit the Dalmatian’s house to see how all the puppies I’ve rescued so far are doing. Because only MONSTERS do not save puppies. Also, the Pongo and his lady dog wife have many gifts for me. But I’m rescuing puppies because it’s the right thing to do, not because I’m being bribed. Really.

Speaking of nifty stuff, I’ve amassed a large fortune of munnies and I’m low on potions. Let's go shopping! So in Traverse Town, we’ve got the Item Shop run by Donald’s nephews, Huey, Dewy and Louie, Cid’s Gummi Shop, a Moogle shop for synthesizing items, and—oh hey, that’s new. Seems Geppetto and Pinocchio made it safely to Traverse Town with Leon’s help (somehow…) and have opened up shop that designs Gummi Ships. They hook me up with freebies too. Nice.

Well, seems like should get back to hero-ing, so off we go to Atlantica. Atlantica’s an underwater world, so being air breathers as we are; a little magic is going to be required here. Fortunately for our brave crew, Donald has the power polymorph! Probably. So, I proudly present to you mer-shark Sora, Goofy the dog turtle, and Donald, the, um, duck octopus. Bet you thought you’d live your whole life long without seeing tentacles on a duck. So did I. I was wrong. I… I didn’t want to be wrong… ;_;

Moving past mental breakdown material, we enter the world of Atlantica. Just as we port in, Ariel, Flounder and Sebastian come swimming our way at top speed. Sebastian comes face to face with his first tentacle-duck experience and screams in horror. As well he should. As well he should.

Ariel, always one to adapt well to new experiences, tells Sebastian not to be afraid. From their conversation it seems they were running from Heartless, and are now trying to figure out of if Sora and co. are friend or foe. Flounder says their weird, and Sora laughs nervously and asks what he meant by that. Ariel and he talk, and I don’t know if he’s just nervous around fish he doesn’t know or what, but Sora continues talking to Ariel like if he gives himself away she will turn into some sort of demon fish and eat him. Or maybe he’s not used to girls in nothing but their fins and shell bra. Either way it makes for an amusing scene. Hmm, actually, don't mermaids eat human flesh in some stories? I know they occasionally steal souls or get married to humans to gain souls... After all, Sora grew up in a waterfront community, maybe on his world it's an issue we just don't know about. Hey, it could happen! ^_^

It’s all in good fun till the Heartless show up and Ariel and company hide, leaving you to sort out the problem. Once the Heartless have been taken out, Ariel and her friends come back and ask if you can escort them to the palace safely.

Of course Sora and company don’t protest this and in a short matter of time we are in the presence of King Triton himself. Triton is holding off the occasional Heartless incursion by the power of his magical trident. He’s definitely not pleased with their presence in his world. Or his daughter for wandering about out in the danger zones, for that matter.

As we make our introductions, Goofy absently mentions the Keyhole. Surprisingly, this makes Triton even more upset. He says there’s no such thing, and certainly it is not here. Ariel entreats her father but gets shot down and grounded. She high tails it, and Sora and company follows. After they are all gone, Triton laments having to be too strict with his daughter. Sebastian assures him that no harm was done. Sebastian now also voices an interest in the Keyhole. Triton basically tells him to forget it. Triton knows something here. Interesting… Triton asks for Sebastian’s report and the crab confirms the king’s suspicions that the Heartless are coming from Ursula’s grotto. This angers the king, along with Sebastian’s apparent failures at keeping Ariel out of dangerous areas. As Sebastian babbles excuses the scene ends.

As you swim away from the palace, Ariel tells you to come to her grotto so she can show you something. “Aw man! Look at this stuff! Isn’t it neat?” Ahem. Kidding. Well, a little. She does show you her collection, but she doesn’t sing. Instead, she tells you her theory about them (the items) being from the outside world. She plans on trying to see other worlds one day. Sora and her bond for a moment over their mutual dream, but Sora quickly covers his slip to keep Ariel from finding out his dream was already realized. Then Ariel suggests they try looking for the Keyhole. Sora reminds her of her father’s decree and she lets her daddy issue show for a minute by raging against Triton’s lack of understanding and suppression of her free spirit. Sebastian is listening in on the conversation, but no one notices. There is a suspicious looking marking on the wall that resembles Triton’s trident, but Sora can’t do anything with it, apart from uselessly smack it with a Keyblade. Ariel seems to have left the room, which was poor planning on her part. Left with only Flounder to stop me, I help myself to a few treasures before heading back outside.

Ah wait, she is with me. Ariel leaves the grotto with Sora, neither knowing they are being watched by the evil eels Flotsam and Jetsam, and through them, the sea witch, Ursula. That’s a large percentage of this world’s population spying here if you think about it. I mean, we have to assume that somewhere tucked away where we haven’t been the general populace of merfolk and assorted subjects of Prince Eric are also part of this world, but so far we’ve met maybe seven inhabitants of Atlantica and four of them are spying on Ariel and Flounder and the last one is most likely the person that sent Sebastian to go spy in the first place. What does all this mean? I don’t know, but I’m beginning to see why Ariel wants to get the heck out of town.

Anyway… Where were we? Oh right, Ursula’s watching them in her caldron via eel-cam, saying how they will never find the Keyhole. She doesn’t have the best opinions on them, but she does think she could find a use for Ariel. Deciding to make use of the Heartless, Ursula seems to be planning revenge against Triton for banishing her. After some evil laughter that could’ve lasted a bit longer in my humble opinion (Ursula’s got a great laugh, she can really let out a good cackle when she wants too) the scene switches back to our brave heroes. We look around for a bit but we don’t find anything that looks like a Keyhole. What we do find is a crystal that would totally fit the shape of the trident looking wall marking in Ariel’s grotto. So, like an ill-supervised toddler armed with a fork and set down next to an electrical outlet, I rush over to stick something in socket without truly appreciating what consequences of such an action will be.

Uh-oh, Triton’s caught us! He has a hissy fit about Ariel leaving the palace. The camera pans to Sebastian. Narc! Triton lets his calculated rage loose with his trident and destroys the crystal. He clearly did not want us continuing to play with that. Oh, poo. Ariel deals with the situation as she often does, by swimming off upset. Oh, my dear little mermaid, you must one day try talking through your problems with daddy instead of leaving them to fester. Ah well. Triton’s blocking the path of Sora and the gang though, so apparently we get to continue to be witness to the awkward battle of an overprotective father and his rebellious daughter. Yipe. Triton turns his attentions to Sora and company, firmly revealing that he knows they are from another world and that Sora must be the key bearer. He gets angry with them for meddling in his world’s affairs. Triton says, “The key bearer shatters peace and brings ruin." Ouch. Heavy. Goofy jumps to Sora’s defense, saying that he’s not like that.

Triton remains unconvinced and tells them to take their key and get the heck out of his ocean. Triton then swims away, leaving Sora to contemplate all this. Poor Sora. I think it’s starting to sink in he got a lot more than he bargained for when he agreed to this key bearing business.

Meanwhile, Flotsam and Jetsam had discovered Ariel sobbing in the garden. The ocean’s just a little saltier today from her tears. What? I can be poetic when I want to be. ^_^ They pretend to want to help, and introduce her to Ursula, saying that she can make all of Ariel’s dreams come true. Ursula tells Ariel that her wish to see other worlds is not terribly hard to grant, since her friends Sora, Donald and Goofy were all from another world. So clearly it didn’t take much to get it done. Ariel is surprised to learn this, but Ursula continues on, saying that they travel with the help of the key that Sora carries. Ariel saddens, knowing that she doesn’t have a key I suppose, (even though I just know I've seen fan art with her wielding one. ^_~) Ursula encourages her to cheer up though, for Ariel does possess something that has the power she needs. Oh tsk, tsk Ariel, this can only end in tears…

Well, after all that fighting the last thing I want to do is go bother Triton, but the only save point/exit to my ship is in his throne room, so off we go. Ariel and Ursula get to the throne room before us however, and the trident was stupidly left unguarded in the center of the room. Ursula gets a hold of the trident and reveals herself as a baddie by unleashing a cackle as an unhappy Ariel comforts her defeated father. Ariel cries out that this isn’t what she wanted, but Ursula just reminds her that she hated taking commands from her father anyway, so why complain? Ursula is also reminded that she promised to send Ariel to another world, and decides that the dark work of the Heartless is the first stop for our girl. Flotsam and Jetsam interrupt her, saying that they cannot find the Keyhole in the palace. That puts a little water on her fire, and immediately after Sora and company arrives to help put it out completely if we can.

Ursula decides to flee rather than fight. Triton, who is somehow weak as a kitten at the moment tells them that they must get the trident back. Suuure, now it’s fine if I meddle in the affairs of your world… Ah well. It’s on like Donkey Kong and everyone wants in. Ariel and Sebastian volunteer to help fight, Triton lays in his chair whispering helpful clues on beating the sea witch. After a short search, we find her lair. I pause as we enter, taking a good look at the multitude of little worm creatures that are lining the floor of the entrance. Maybe this is where the majority of the merfolk have disappeared to. Trapped and held here by the sea witch’s power, they make for a very creepy scene to swim through to get to the boss battle. When we get there, Donald and Sebastian call Ursula out to fight. It’s a tricky battle, but in the end we kill Flotsam and Jetsam and Ursula flees. We still need to get the trident though, so we pursue her. Ursula’s tapped into the power of the trident and just like Rita Repulsa’s trident on Power Rangers, it makes her grow giant-sized. Wow. That’s a big octo-maid. Mermapus? Either way, that’s a lot of calamari. Well, you know what they say, the bigger they are, the more water they displace. Let’s do this!

A few well-placed blows and fancy swimming displace the beastly she-cephalopod and we return in triumph with the trident to Triton’s throne room. Both daughter and father are all about making amends and there’s a moment or two where a group hug wouldn’t have been weird. Triton goes on to explain that he destroyed the crystal because it could have revealed the Keyhole to his world. He thought this should be avoided at all cost because of the danger he believes the Keyblade poses. Now though, he wishes Sora to seal the Keyhole. Sora tells him that that was the plan all along, you big silly. Okay fine, he didn’t call the king of the ocean a big silly. I guess that would've been weird for everyone. :P Anyway turns out the Keyhole is tucked away in Ariel’s grotto, isn’t that neat? ^_~

Ariel uses the trident to uncover the Keyhole and Sora seals it up tight. Sora apologizes for lying to Ariel and she forgives him. Then she goes on about her dreams to see other worlds and since she now knows that such travel is possible it has fill her with hope to go herself one day. Good for her. We don’t have a fish tank on the Gummi ship, so she’s not coming with us, I guess. Ah well. Triton only has nice things to say to Sora now though, so that’s a plus. He apologized for misjudging Sora and thanks him for saving his world and sealing the Keyhole.

Jiminy’s Journal-

“Ariel, a princess of Atlantica, yearned to go to other worlds. But her dream could not be realized as King Triton, her father, forbade such notions. Ursula took advantage of this to coax Ariel into leading her to Triton’s trident, which she then seized for herself. To atone for her mistake, Ariel went to Ursula’s lair with Sora, Donald, and Goofy to retrieve the trident. After her morays were defeated, Ursula used the trident’s power to become a giant, but was vanquished in the end. With the trident’s power, Sora found the Keyhole and sealed it.”

When we beat Ursula, we received Ansem’s Report #3-

“The Shadows that crawl beneath the castle. Are they the people who lost their hearts, or incarnations of darkness?

Or something entirely beyond imagination?

All my knowledge provided no answer.

One thing I am sure of is that they are entirely devoid of emotion. Perhaps further study will unlock the mysteries of the heart. Fortunately, there is no shortage of test samples. They are multiplying underground even as I write this report.

They still need a name.

Those who lack hearts. I will call them the Heartless.”

Hmm, I think Ansem really just wanted to be in a Zombie survival horror story…

To Sum Up: Sora and the gang do some shopping in Traverse Town and then meet Ariel and her friends in Atlantica. Ariel shares Sora's dream of wanting to see other worlds, and Ursula tries to take advantage of that to seize power from Ariel's father, Triton. Sora and company thwart the coup d'état, saving the Kingdom. Really I think the most interesting thing about this world is that Triton knows about the Keyblade and the keyhole, since normally the world's inhabitance have never hear of either. We also got another report from Ansem in which he muses on the Heartless and gives them that name, saying that they lack hearts and any emotion.

Behold, the duck-a-pus. What has been seen cannot be unseen.
Sora and the gang have a short conversation that hints that I should head back to Traverse Town, but I’m up for more adventure. I chart a course for an as yet unvisited world and blast off heading away from Traverse Town. What could possibly go wrong?

Mid flight a massively big grey thing appears, blocking our path. It’s a giant whale!! Monstro from Pinocchio! O M G guys! I hope it doesn’t—yep, it swallowed us. Dang.

Something about being swallowed by a whale must have made our guys black out, because a cut scene of Sora’s youth begins to play. Younger versions (maybe 7 to 10ish year olds?) of Sora and Riku are on the island headed for the secret place-that cave with the door inside it. They are wearing less complicated versions of their outfits from when they are older, as if their clothes grow up later too. This amuses me to no end for some reason, especially in later games when they get even older and their outfits again get more complicated, only proving my theory. ^_^ Anyway…

Young Sora-“It’s true! I saw it with my own eyes!”

Young Riku-“You sure you didn’t just think you heard it this time?”

Young Sora-“What difference does it make? There’s a huge monster in there, I tell you!”

Young Riku-“All right, Suppose there really is a monster… Think we can beat it by ourselves, Sora?”

Young Sora-“No problem. Let’s do it! Listen! There! Can you hear it growling?”

Young Riku-“Shh, quiet. We’ve gotta be careful.”

The scene cuts away to a few minutes later after they have entered the cave. They are looking up at place where a rock is stuck in a crevice causing the wind that passes through it to produce the noise that Sora mistook for a monster’s growl.

Young Riku-“See that? It was just the wind making that sound.”(I may have this line slightly wrong, but that’s the jist of it. I wasn’t able to pause it in time properly.)

Young Sora-“Aw, man. I wish it was a monster! Hold on! What’s that over there?”

We pan over to see the ornate wooden door that is randomly in the back of the cave. Riku tries to open it, but it won’t give. There’s no handle on it after all.

Young Riku-“A window, or maybe a door? It won’t open.”

Young Sora-“Geez, is that really all that’s in here?”

Young Riku-“What do you expect in a boring place like this?” (There’s a pause.) “Hey, Sora."

Young Sora-“Hm?”

Young Riku-“When we grow up, let’s get of this island. We’ll go on real adventures, not this kid stuff!”

Young Sora-“Sure. But isn’t there anything fun to do now?”

Young Riku-“Hey, you know the new girl at the mayor’s house?”

The scene fades to white as they leave the cave. We return to present day with Sora passed out inside Monstro. Called it! ^_^ Check another mark on the tally. Sora out cold count is at 6 presently. Who knows when it will end!

Sora Out Cold Count: 6.

Goofy and Donald, being made of sturdier stuff then JRPG pretty boys, are wide-awake. As a matter of fact, Donald is yelling upwards, telling someone or something to cut it out. Goofy sees that Sora has come to and asks if he’s okay. Sora asks what they are up to, and if they know where they are. Goofy explains that Monstro swallowed them, and now someone is throwing things down at them. Turns out its Pinocchio (how’d he get here? Puppet Ninja!) absent-mindedly rummaging through a treasure chest. He wanders off and we follow.

Sora and company rejoins Pinocchio on his father’s ship. Pinocchio gives his father the Gummi block he found, saying they can use it to get away from Monstro. Sora confirms this and rightly asks how the heck Pinocchio got there. He doesn’t get an answer, but Geppetto introduces himself and tells Sora that he has been looking all over for Pinocchio. Pinocchio’s not paying attention to them, he’s looking towards the back of Monstro’s throat where he spots a boy that could only be Riku running away from the area. He’s the only one who notices him. Geppetto doesn’t notice that Pinocchio’s left them to follow after Riku until the puppet is also disappearing into the distance. Sora and crew are tasked with bringing him back, so off we go!

Pinocchio is quickly located, and the gang tells him to come back with them. When he doesn’t come over to them Sora tries some tough love.

Sora-“Pinocchio, stop fooling around! This is no time for games!”

He and the others turn and start heading back to the ship, but a voice stops them in their tracks.

Riku-“But, Sora, I thought you liked games. Or are you too cool to play them now that you have the Keyblade?” (Oooh, oh no you didn’t just go there…)

Sora-“Riku! Wh—What are you doing here?”

Riku-“Just playing with Pinocchio.”

Sora-“You know what I mean! What about Kairi? Did you find her?”

Riku-“Maybe. Catch us and maybe I’ll tell you what I know.”

Sora-“Come on!”

Sora’s not in the mood for games, but Riku is insisting on playing hard to get so the chase is on. Eventually, we draw close. Meanwhile, Riku’s been chatting with the dark fairy.

Maleficent-“Why do you still care about that boy? He has all but deserted you for the Keyblade and his new companions, after all.”

Riku-“I don’t care about him. I was just messing with him a little.”

Maleficent-“Oh, really? Of course you were. Beware the darkness in your heart. The Heartless prey upon it.”

Riku-“Mind your own business.”

Maleficent leaves. Pinocchio runs past Riku, Sora and company close behind him.

Sora-“Riku! What’s the matter with you? What are you thinking? Don’t you realize what you’re doing?” (Huh. Why, Sora, what do you think he’s up to? All you’ve seen him do so far is run off on you and play with a puppet. You seem to be taking it kind of hard.)

Riku-“I was about to ask you the same thing, Sora.”(Well I—wait, what? Really? The same exact thing? Crazy man. You’re psychic! )“You only seem interested in running around and showing off that Keyblade these days.”(So this is a jealously thing then? But your hair is cooler then my hair; can’t you just let me have my little moment in the sun?) “Do you even want to save Kairi?”(Who? Oh right her, the kooky chick from the island...)

Sora-“I do.”

Pinocchio scream echoes from another room. Both of them stop talking and look towards to chamber. When they reach it, there is an unspoken agreement to get Pinocchio out of the Heartless that swallowed him.

Riku-“You up for this?"

Sora-“No problem. Let’s do it!”

We beat it up some, and it drops Pinocchio through a hole that opens in Monstro. We follow, slightly behind Riku. When we land, Geppetto is pleading with Riku to return Pinocchio to him. Pinocchio seems to be out cold. Perhaps he fainted? Can puppets faint?

Pinocchio out cold count 1?

Riku-“Sorry, old man. I have some unfinished business with this puppet.”

Gepetto-“He’s no puppet! Pinocchio is my little boy!”

Riku-“He is unusual. Not many puppets have hearts. I’m not sure, but maybe he can help someone who’s lost theirs.”

Sora-“Wait a minute. Are you talking about Kairi?”

Riku-“What do you care about her?”

On that note, Riku leaves us. We give chase, (after pulling Dumbo’s summoning stone out of a chest—woot) following Riku to the stomach of the whale.

Sora-“Hey, let Pinocchio go, Riku.”

Riku-“A puppet that’s lost it heart to the Heartless… Maybe it holds the key to helping Kairi. How about it, Sora? Let’s join forces to save her. We can do it together.” (Riku offers Sora his hand from across the room. Sora drops into a fighting stance.) “What? You’d rather fight me? Over a puppet that has no heart?”

Sora-“Heart or no heart, at least he still has a conscience."

Sora-“You might not hear it, but right now it’s loud and clear. And it’s telling me you’re on the wrong side!” (Jiminy has hopped down from his usual place at Sora’s shoulder. He hasn’t actually spoken yet though, for any of you who are keeping track of such things. ^_^ Sora’s taking a bit of a poetic license with the situation.)

Riku-“Then you leave me no choice.”(Jiminy runs over to Pinocchio, calling out his name in concern. Pinocchio opens his eyes.)

Pinocchio-“Jiminy… I’m not gonna make it.”(He slumps. Then his nose grows.) “Oh, I guess I’m okay!”

He and Jiminy cheer up. The rest of the people in the room are still grim, though. Before the standoff between Sora and Riku can be resolved, the Heartless that ate Pinocchio earlier returns. I guess Riku decides to cut his losses and peaces out via a portal to darkness he can apparently make now to travel by. Pinocchio gets clear, leaving Sora and company free to fight. After beating it up this time, we seem to have giving Monstro an upset stomach. Donald shouts for us to run.

Sora-“Riku! Riku, where are you?”

I guess Sora didn’t notice Riku leave earlier. Riku is apparently now on Captain Hook’s ship the Jolly Roger, watching over the prone figure of Kairi. He’s rather down trodden about her condition, almost desperate.

Riku-“So, Kairi’s like a lifeless puppet now?”

Riku-“And her heart was…”

Maleficent-“Taken by the Heartless, no doubt.”

Riku-“Tell me! What can I do?”

Maleficent-“There are seven maidens of the purest heart. We call them the princesses of heart. Gather them together, and a door will open to the heart of all worlds. Within lies untold wisdom. There, you will surely find a way to recover Kairi’s heart. Now, I’ll grant you a marvelous gift. The power to control the Heartless.”

Everything goes black for a moment, and when we can see again, Riku is glowing with a sickly green energy that’s misting around him. He seems darker for it. It gets absorbed into him and turns from Maleficent back to Kairi, fists clenched.

Riku-“Soon, Kairi. Soon.”

As Riku is making his promise, elsewhere Sora and company are being spat (sneezed?) out of Monstro. Goofy and Donald ponder if Pinocchio and his father got okay. Sora just says sadly, “Riku…”

Clearly Jiminy’s still with us since he’s written up another report.

“Inside Monstro, Sora and his friends ran into Pinocchio and Geppetto. Pinocchio wandered off, and when Sora found him, he also found Riku. It was a strange reunion, and Riku suddenly ran off with Pinocchio. Baffled by Riku’s behavior, Sora followed them. Amidst all the chaos, a Heartless attacked Pinocchio and left him lying motionless. Did it consume his heart? No way! His heart survived, and will remain strong as long as I do my duty as his conscience. Pinocchio awakened when I called his name. Riku fled the scene, leaving Sora bewildered by the change in his friend.”

After that, there’s more hinting that Sora and company should go back to Traverse Town, along with the information that another tournament is being held. Aw man… Okie dokie.

BRB Tourney. “We’re the Champs!”

Sora-“Is strength the most important part of a hero?”

Phil-“Well, what you really need is a strong heart. What makes a strong heart? If you have to ask, you’re not a hero yet!’

Sora-“Stop talking in riddles!”

Phil-“It’s not a riddle!”

Dang it Phil, you’re going to make this boy get a complex here.

I hit Traverse Town too. Let’s go shopping! So in Traverse Town, we’ve got the Item Shop run by Donald’s nephews, Huey, Dewy and Luey, Cid’s Gummi Shop, a Moogle shop for synthesizing items, and—oh hey, that’s new. Seems Geppetto and Pinocchio made it safely to Traverse Town with Leon’s help (somehow…) and have opened up shop that designs Gummi Ships. They hook me up with freebies too. Nice.

To Sum Up:Sora and company get swallowed by Monstro, the whale from Pinocchio’s world. Sora gets knocked out in the process (Sora Out Cold Count: 6)and treats us to a flash back of younger versions of himself and Riku finding the mysterious door in the cave on their island, but not being able to open it. The scene ends when the two decide to go meet the new girl in town, who can only be Kairi. Sora wakes up and the trio meets Pinocchio and his father Gepetto. Pinocchio spots Riku and wanders off after him. Sora and company give chase, and we find out that Riku's interested in Pinocchio because he's a puppet with a heart. Riku's apparently found Kairi, but she's lost her heart, so he's hoping somehow Pinocchio holds the secret to helping fix that.

In the end he leaves empty handed and Maleficent convinces Riku that the way to save Kairi is by gathering the princesses of heart to open the door to the darkness. They're working under the assumption that Kairi's heart was taken by the Heartless, so perhaps it's on the other side of the door. Maleficent amps Riku's darkness up to 11 with her own dark powers. Meanwhile Sora and company escape Monstro and win another tournament.
